what would be your criteria. example: excellent fuel consumption, automatic transmission, high resale cost, reasonable maintenance cost.

you will do fine staying with the japanese big four... honda, mitsubishi, nissan, or toyota..
each marque will have its rabid fanaticdom, which means each model has its advantages..
no one model has a fatal flaw..
good maintenance from the previous owner is probably the most important factor to consider here..
and manual transmission used cars usually are less of a headache than automatic transmission used cars.., as do low mileage versus high mileage cars..

so what do/did i have? a sentra. bought it new in 1997.. just sold it recently to make space in the garage..

The toyota vios might be your best choice. Its plentiful, easy on the fuel, spacious, parts everywhere.

Alternative would be the Nissan Sentra.

Considering your budget of 230k, I'd go for the Sentra over the Vios simply because you can get a newer car for the same money over an older Vios because of the less than appealing resale values of Nissans in general, so use it to your advantage.

Downside with choosing the sentra would be the fuel consumption. The Vios would give better fuel economy and parts are more plentiful.

If not as a bother, may I ask ask some background information? Financial snapshot and all?

To be frank, 230k isn't much for a car. Once you throw in allowances for maintenance your choices will have gone down quite a lot.

just for the sake of those considering a sentra/exalta on that price range, ano ba average consumption nito compared to vios? City and Hway?

The 2001-2003 Sentra N16 (Exalta Grandeur series) is priced at that range nowadays. You can even get the newer Sentra GS models (2004-2006). The B14 Sentra and Exalta (1999-2000) are priced even lower. On the average, the N16 Sentra/Exalta GS 1.6L AT is about 8 km/L on city driving conditions and 12 km/L on the highway using the required 95RON fuel for its QG16 engine. The lower end GX 1.3L models also averages the same as the 1.3L is quite anemic to run that heavy N16 chassis. Not sure what are the averages of the older B14 Sentra with its GA16 engines. With regards to parts availability, you can easily source it out from Yen or Youngbros or NisParts in Banawe.

Wow! Thanks for all the suggestion guys! I actually want an automatic. I was looking at some '01-03 civic VTIs and LXIs. Checked some Mazda 3s too..

For FC im ok with 8km/L.. automatic naman kse hanap ko.

Dont really like the vios.. not my type. Pero madami nga nagsasabi na ok din to.

Financial background -well after paying all the bills my extra cash sits in the 4-5digits range.. hopefully thats enough for car maintenance, isnt it? Haha!

I have not looked into the sentra.. im going to after this post.

If you can find a good condition Civic ES (2001-2005) or ZZ Altis (2001-2003) within your budget, go for it. However, with 230k, it would be best to allot 30k of that for repairs/mods.

Salamat sa lahat nang nagbigay ng advice! Kahit hindi mazda ung sinasabi nyo ahehehe.. i think ok naman ung deal namen.

Yup, that seems like a fair shake already. Just do a general service (change all fluids, all filters, check suspension and brakes, etc.) and it's good to go.

Mga Sir hingi naman ng advice Im buying a car

    Toyota Vios 2004 AT 1.5G
Casa maintained lady driven working from meralco before retired na and they will buy an SUV thats the RFS
concern ko lang is 165K ang mileage
pero car wise so far ha based on my test drive
    maayos ang shifting ng ggear
tahimik konti ang makina wala din tunog pag ililiko mo manibela mabilis pa mag react hindi yung naka talong ikot kana di pa naikot
    saka cold aircon
    all stock
price is 230K 1st owner sila

    my question is

is this a good buy? ok lang ba yung mileage nung car or masyadong bugbog? na mention din nila pinang babaguio nila yung kotse
hindi bako talo? i know naman suspension wise nung kotse understable na medyo matagtag na i can live with that concern ko is baka dahil sa taas ng mileage ng kotse i sakin bumigay

please pa advice naman thank you mga pre!

Vios is a good car, but for me, medyo mataas na mileage nya. Look for other unit na mas mababa yung mileage.

Good day mga tsikoteers! Need ko po ng expert advise to buy a second hand car. Budget ko is 200-250 (leaving another 50k for repairs if any), automatic and hatchback sana yung maliit lang pero pwede ibyahe sa slex binan to paranaque. Reason is currently, i own an advie manual trans, pero yung wife ko medyo hirap magdrive using this...since gusto nya matuto and at the same time magamit din nya for daily short travel lang. Fyi, medyo newbie din ako! Thank you in advance!

    Hmmm.

Corolla 1.6GLi or iyong Type Z City.

Pwede rin naman EK Civic LXi na AT. Within the budget range naman ata iyon..

Hatchback, parang wala. Unless Picanto or Getz ang kukunin. Both of which I will turn down kung ang other alternatives eh sedan.

Iba pa rin pag malaki lalo na pag sa SLEX. Delikado yan sa asawa mo if hatch tas parati dadaan sa slex. Minsan ang lakas pa naman ng hangin dun
