If you convert to MP3 and convert back to Audio CD, the removed signals will be gone, and so there is quality loss. If you rip from Audio CD to say WAV or AIFF, and burn back onto CD, there will be minimal loss, just those that are incorrectly written by your CD-writer, or incorrectly read by the drive...
I sacrificed MP3/WAV capability for sound quality in my choosing of an HU hehe I think i'd rather have a good sound shaping tool than MP3 or WAV
I think MP3 is good, as long its burned/ripped properly. Its convenient at di masakit sa bulsa. Tho, I have a hard time browsing thru so many songs/folders in a CD just to play what I want. Overall its ok but IMO, I still love the sound of Audio CD's
Dati, I would buy pCD then rip em and burn em thru Cdr/w's. I thought makakasave ako, pero sometimes it back fires hehehe. Minsan di maganda yun pCD, nagkakaleche-leche sa burning hehe. Pag play mo and daming noise...

anybody have a deh-4650?
is it good in playing mp3's, coz sabi sa website nila na parang finifill-in ng HU yung mga parts ng music na nawala due to compression. so baka ok na rin tunog nun.
sir odell:
i have a deh4650. mp3 playback on the HU is good. i've been listening to the MP3 compilation of RUSH, galing.
bought mine for 9200, but last time i asked at Carluck in Banawe, 9000 na lang.
get the audio CDs ripped using software called EAC (Exact Audio Copy), and set its ripping to 256kbps stereo.
previously when the site r3mix.net was up and running, i had studies regarding MP3 (i was engrossed at that subject way back then). one of the items there mentioned that for archiving the quality of audio CDs, 256kbps is almost indistingushable from audio CDs as played on strictly controlled equipments and sampled by qualified hearing sensitive audiophiles (these individuals are gifted and can sense differences in frequencies and bitrates even if they don't see the sound source).
my HU is a basic Pioneer 3550MP (MP3 capable). whenever possible, i make it a point to encode my MP3s at 256kbps stereo (320kbps if possible), and i can't tell the difference (i'm quite a sound sensitive freak myself).
