Allen, make sure kalikutin mo yung sample HU before you buy. For me lang kasi maganda kung tactile yung response ng buttons/knobs/dials kaysa sa parang walang feedback. I prefer knobs sa button for the volume, madaling hinaan pag kelangan.
IMO you should install it yourself, that way alam mong tamang wires yung pinuputol kasi minsan pag nagtipid ka rin sa install, tantsahan lang kaya they might cut the wrong wires, etc.
I myself got an Eclipse HU for $210 pero may knobs siya and the backlight matches that of my car (somewhat). Ayoko rin yung mukhang out of place yung HU sa kotse.

^ salamat bossing mbeige. so what HU do u suggest i buy given my budgetary constraints for my 99 lxi? actually, kaya ako bibili ng bago/2nd hand kasi ung stock clarion na HU bumigay ung pindutan for the volume and pang search ng stations. kaya yes, mas prefer ko na ung knob volume tho as iv said, any reliable HU will do basta it can play CD's (not mp3's)

That's up to you, di ko alam what you think looks good sa lxi mo. Pero that's just me, what I posted previously is what I have in mind when shopping for a used one. Minsan mga stores meron silang used, or sa Banawe? Pioneer, Fujitsu Ten, Blaupunkt, Sony, and Alpine are good used brands that are also reliable. Kenwood, to me, is so so from experience pero matibay daw.
Also, I don't have the detachable face HU. Why? Because mechanical parts break earliest. Since you're not playing MP3, you should be able to broaden your search. Make sure meron din yan anti-shock technology para sa mga lubak. Our Kenwood sa wagon doesn't have it ayun tumatalon. Pero it came with the car so ok lang.
OT: Atenista ka pala, anong batch mo?

Pioneer DEH-1850MP if i'm not mistaken. Goes about 5K+. That's only CD capable. Yung DEH-2850 nasa 6K+ same specs plus MP3 capable.

ATG, $70 to $80 talaga yung DB-265MP. Check e-bay. brand-new ito ha. maraming dealers who sell at that price.
the pioneer DEH-1850 is 4,200. i just checked a few hours ago. it's CD only, tapos walang changer control. the only good thing about it is, black siya. so it matches most dashes. i am also of the opinion na hindi maganda tignan yung mukhang out of place na alien silver (example: those weird-looking Sony Xplod units).
the cheapest MP3-capable pioneer is the 2850MP. 6,100 at SM Appliance Center. the cheapest Sony Xplod i found at Ace Hardware was 5,200-ish. i think hindi siya MP3-capable.
