    Are DVD head units part of the DVD region coding schemes? If so, is there away around this? Or are there DVD head units out in the market which are DVD-Region Free?

    AFAIK dvd players here are region free already. We have two. Philips and a Sony, both are region free.

    where is "here"? :-D I trust you are speaking through experience, and have tested both brands with original region-coded DVDs, right?

    here=Philippines.

    yep. I don't know about the other regions pero so far all region 1 and 3 dvds play smoothly naman. No problems whatsoever. ;)
