Out of curiosity, just did a quick browse for Android head units and it seems a new series of generic HU's have arrived to Shopee/Lazada sporting QLED panels. I looked at several and it seems these are sporting a variant of the ARM Cortex A73 chipset which should be powerful enough to run 4k videos smoothly. I know this for a fact as I have an old 4k TV with this particular SoC (a MediaTek variant sporting 2GB of RAM).
I haven't ordered one yet as I want to look around more. On paper, these new QLED ones seem to be a far better HU than the regular generic ones (which are all over Shopee/Lazada and most of Banawe/Evangelista) just because of the better processor.
One brand I'm interested in is Eonon, which is shipped from Hong Kong but probably made in nearby Guangdong province. It's definitely more expensive but the reviews look good.

January 28th, 2025 07:56 PM #156Hi,
If you're deciding between a branded head unit with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and an Android-based head unit with CarPlay support, it really depends on what features matter most to you.
Branded units like those from Pioneer, Sony, or Kenwood typically offer more stability, better sound processing, and reliable connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. They’re also built to integrate seamlessly with your car’s system and often get regular firmware updates.
On the other hand, Android-based head units like Navitopia or Growl can give you more flexibility and customization options. They’re essentially tablets in your dashboard, allowing you to run various apps directly on the unit. However, their reliability can vary depending on the model and software version.
As for CarPlay on Navitopia and Growl, I’ve read mixed reviews. Some users report stable connections during long drives, while others mention occasional disconnections or lag, especially with wireless CarPlay. It might be worth asking Navitopia and Growl about their after-sales support and firmware updates, as these can impact the user experience significantly.
