While i haven't known of a fire caused by a dashcam(w/ a lithium batt) they do fail earlier from the battery swelling up than those that use external power. I'd wager it would be the same for a phone.

I ordered this Carlinkit Android Box a few days ago and it's still enroute.

It makes any CarPlay and/or Android Auto capable head units function somewhat like a full Android tablet with the capabilities of AA like split-screen but none of its limitations like streaming videos over YT, Netflix, etc. This allows you to have more functionality without changing anything on your factory 2DIN.

You phone pairs with the box so you still get your calls through the car's audio system.

Will report back on how it goes when I get it.

    Hi!

I have a Honda City 2017 1.5 E, and I'm looking to replace its HU. Targeting to get one with Android Auto, with backup camera compatibility na din sana. Any recommended brands/models? Yung mga Pioneer HU na nakikita ko din kasi puro shipped pa from Japan. And the others are mostly Chinese brands na, so I can't really decide sa ngayon.

    Thanks!

If all you're after is Apple Carplay or Android Auto, I would stick to the main brands like Kenwood, JVC, Pioneer, etc. Personally, I'm a Kenwood guy for their sound quality, but has since been satisfied with the factory 2DIN in my current car... but I digress.

ACP and AA are pretty much standard on most aftermarket 2DINs nowadays so you should also look at other specs like the UI/UX, feature capabilities, sound quality, etc. Online reviews would help.

I recommend that you visit a car audio/accessories store. But research first before going, though. Check out their online offerings (if available) just so you can shortlist the products based on the feature sets you want and other merits. Just be ready to have your shields up for any sales talk they might level at you. Been there, done that. lol

18 years ago, I bought my gear (Kenwood HU, iPod integration, NTSC TV receiver, DLS seps, etc.) from LA Car Accessories for my then Civic FD. They have a website so you can check out their line-up against your budget and preferences. I'd like to mention that I'm not affiliated to them in any way, shape, or form. You're more than welcome to check out the others.

    Good hunting!

EDIT: Found the HUs here... my bad: Car Multimedia - L.A. Car Accessories

Thank you for this! My needs are actually just to have a proper screen for the backup camera I'd be installing, and to have a larger screen for Waze/GMaps para hindi nagkakalikot ng phone. Will look into LA Car Accessories' page since saktong layo lang dun sa Makati branch nila. Thanks!
