Both the 316i and 320i have awful FC. The 316 because it's underpowered, the 320 because it's a bigger engine.

Parts of the 320i are the same with the 316i except for engine components. Lots of M52 specialists though since most collectors go for the 320 instead of the 316.

Collector item ba talaga bmw, tingin ko toyota lang sila ng Europe. Mahal dito kase ship + tax from other side pf the world. Pero dun sa Europe parang ordinary subcompact lang

Pero alam niyo ba since BMW is bavaria Motor Works, sa Bavaria pala nag simula ang occult side ng Nazi Regime. Sa lake mismo may bumagsak na meterorite noon araw, and because of that the people there are somewhat more skilled tapos yun na nga they developed BMW

^^^I don't think an Altis or Camry will ever drive like a 3-series or 5-series. The Lexus IS350 though can go head-to-head with the 3-series, as well as the A4 and the C-Class.

*jut703 - will an E46 be a better option over the older E36? May mga iilan na E46 binebenta within BF Homes, parked outside the homes of its owners.

I personally like the E46 more than the E36, especially as a daily. Much more refined both in its design and its drive. More electronics that can go wrong though. But ultimately I think the E46 is more timeless than the E36 - the E36 looks old but not E30 level of classic.

Though if I were to buy myself an old BMW as a money pit I'd probably get an E39.

The E36 320i will do around 6km/L in the city driving some years ago. I never got to establish the highway driving figures on ours. When we had ours, the service consumable parts are relatively affordable (similar to owning a 2.0L sedan - we had a 2.0 Cefiro that time as well); it will be costly if there is a serious problem with the car (like it overheated or had transmission problems). When you buy one, check the cooling system and the transmission (replace the fluid if AT). Just like most cars, if the previous owner cared for it well and maintained it properly, this will be very reliable and affordable to maintain. However, if it was maltreated, it will be an endless money pit (this is quite amplified when it comes to used Euro cars).

If you can get a 320i, go for that over the 316i if you are looking for power. But if you just want to cruise and enjoy the handling, a 316i can still satisfy.

Lastly, i would recommend having these kind of cars (used euros) as a second car in most cases.

My Tito has a very low mileage 1999 E36 316i (one of the last units) tucked away in his garage and I actually gave thought before on offering him a price for it before (pang coding car... hehe).

How much do the E36 and E46 cost nowadays? The E46 I see in BF are priced around 500k-600k.

We had this in the late 90s to early 00s. It was averaging around 6.5km/L... cannot say anymore about our traffic today so deduct 1-2km/L.

Maybe the body is too heavy compare to the newer models of bm. Surely it will affect the fuel consumption.

If 325i siguro ganyan nga mga 500k+, but if it's a 318i it should be in the 400 range nalang.

The E46 looks better indeed. Avoid the economy model 316i.

Had a 316i before, never got to actually compute the fuel consumption, but coming from a Civic EK Lxi, it seemed to give decent fuel consumption as far as I can remember. The power was pretty decent I remember taking it all the way up to 180km/h and it felt pretty well planted compared to my previous Civic at 160km/h. Maintenance is on the high side, pero marami na gumagawa ng BMW ngayon outside of the casa. I only sold it because the ABS light lit and brought it to the casa for diagnosis and was handed a 75k estimate to replace the ABS system, eh ang problema walang gumagawa ng BMW at that time other than the casa. Replaced it with a Mercedes C220 and my maintenance costs was halved since marami akong kilala sa Benz circle.

Had the chance to own an E36 316i and now A Z3 and an E39. Basically if you're after economy, go for the newer E46 with M43 (316/318) engine. Although underpowered, the M43 is built like a tank. The interior and exterior of the E46 is much more refined. The dash is simply perfect. Not that the E36 is bad but the e46 is much better. Parts for the E46 is quite abundant na din.
