yup, it was addressed before, but somehow i can't find the thread.
yup, i think it is mandatory to use car shampoo. it sorts of remove the dirt and grime that accumulates in your car which cannot be just removed by water alone.
think of taking a bath without shampoo and soap. di ba malagkit ang feeling?

ah ok...thanks for the help.
kindly confirm na lang if this is more or less the following procedure:
1. hose down the car
2. use shampoo using a sponge
3. hose down again
4. dry using chamois (absorb the liquid)
5. wipe the car using terry towels
salamat ulit

Never have it car washed even if it is hand washed..... lesson I learned the hard way :x
Yung mga California products maganda..... I have both the California blade (saves chamois life and avoids swirl marks) and duster (saves time, effort and money washing the car).... sulit. BTW, I'm not technical on these products. Wala akong alam sa mga oxidation ek ek.... just sharing my experiences with them.

nitrox,
use a wash mitt, not a sponge... and don't wipe with the chamois...

Key points... use water to rinse the car well BEFORE you even touch the paint with a washmitt or whatever... The initial rinse should remove most of the dirt before you even begin... As much as possible, keep surface contact to a minimum, so if you use a mitt, make sure you don't RUB the washing apparatus on to the surface, let the shampoo and the wash tool's fibers do the cleaning.
Remember that in most cases, it's the dirt or particles trapped in between the paint and the wash/dry tool that scratches, not the tool itself.

Macky,
sabi ng mga tao dito dati the chamois should be dabbed onto the surface and not wiped with a back-and-forth motion or else the chamois may scratch the paint in case there are particles on the paint (unlike when you use a terry or mf towel that at least traps some of the particles in their fibers)...
theveed,
what do you mean? dapat dab-dab din yung wash mitt and not used with side-to-side or up-down wiping motions?
