Whats the proper number of layers applied when a scrape to metal paintjob is done?

After Scrape to metal, how many layers from primer, to color, to topcoat should be applied?

    thanks!

I'm not really a fan of scrape to metal finishes because it also removes the factory anti corrosion layer (the one applied by dipping the bare body).

In any case, antayin na lang natin reply ng ibang Tsikoteers on the matter.

POR15 is one of the known good rust controllers after scrape to metal.

Real galvanizing is usually a "hot dip" process... dip the metal in a heat-melted zinc and tin (I think) mixture. Spray-on type is nothing much different with applying red lead paint.

From the discussion of the pintor ng kakilala ko... siguraduhin mong na sabon or na degrease mo husto yung metal then sun dried. Before painting with primer sinusiguradong niyang tuyo yung metal... "baking" the metal or heating the metal via lamp is sometimes applied to make sure that the surface is very dry before applying the primer.

3 to 5 coats of primer is more than enough - unless your budget is not a constraint, you can always increase the number of coats. Let the surface dry well between coats for best results.

That same pintor told me rin that having the primer properly dried up (a month or 3) before applying the final paint color is best.

As for the final paint, 3 to 5 coats is also a good practice then 2 to 3 coats of clear.

All these process involves proper drying between coats and between primer and final coat some metal preparation may be needed (final masilya or sanding to proper smoothness). The degrease again before applying paint.

Sa final paint color painting... some body prep (fine wet sanding) may be needed for perfect the paint. Then dry and degrease again before the clear coat application... again possible fine wet sanding may be necessary.

Let dry (weeks?! or months?) before buffing or sealing and waxing.

Avoid Scrape to metal, masasayang lang ang original factory surface preparation & protection. When buying the car, dapat sigurado ka na sa color at dapat original pa.

kumakapal ang pintura pag hindi makatawan ang kulay. normally sa mga cheap brands of paints e ganun. from primer to top coat more or less mga 14 to 17 layers lahat yan.

paglabas ng kotse natin na brand new sa casa mga nasa 6 mils ang kapal ng layers lahat-lahat. mula primer hangang top coat yan (1 mil, more or less is yung plastic ng yosi natin). ang pinaka tolerable is 10 mils. pag sumobra na masyado ng makapal. kaya yung iba is scape na gusto. ito din yung pag kinatok natin e bingi na ang tunog. hope nakatulong sayo ito. have a nice day.
