Layers of Clear Coat

To the auto paint experts .

I got curious... In your experience, how many layers of clear coat could be applied to a vehicle? What are the disadvantages of exceeding the recommended number of clear coat layers?

That depends the layers of base and type of paint job under the clear. I know of people that have put as many as 3-5 layers on a car with 2 layers of base and 6 layers of paint before wet sanding to get the orange peel out.
