    good day!

does anyone know where i can have my car emblem plated to gold like look? does it have to be real gold plated or just look alike? i think the stock emblem is plastic plated with chrome, not that sure.

If you can, you could DIY or let someone whose able do it for you.

    Here's what you'll need:
    -1000 grit sand paper
    -hair dryer
-a can of gold spray paint of your choice
-and a can of clear spray paint

    1. Remove the emblem
    2. Use the 1000 grit sand paper, wet it with water first
    3. Wash emblem with dish washing liquid, rinse it thoroughly
    4. Let it dry naturally (do not with it with a dry cloth) or use the hair dryer instead

Now you're ready to paint... but before proceeding be sure to have the necessary PPE's (personal protective equipment i.e. goggles, gloves and dust mask for spray painting)

    5. Shake the can vigorously prior to painting
    6. APPLY THIN COATS(so the paint won't run)
    7. Use the hair dryer after every thin coat
8 When you reached your desired color, finish it off with the clear coat
    9. Again, APPLY THIN COATS

    Hope this helps

    sir trebuchet:

won't the paint fade or scratch easily? coz the emblem is externally mounted on the car and exposed to heat and rain of the weather.

Yes sir it will chip off if it isn't sanded first... and it will fade if no clear coat is applied.

I learned this the hard way, it happened to me.

A friend said that there's a shop that does this plating thing. He just can't remember where it was.

Sanding it down will allow the primer to grab onto the surface, from there you can paint it whatever you want, then protect it with clear coat.

I just don't see why people still prefer the gold, but to each his own. Personally I'd swap the gold emblems for silver ones, or if it's a sporty car black would suffice, but never gold.

    Hope that helps
