Hello, well either if its just 1 day old or 2 months old it all boils down to the paint condition, you could have a 1 day old car with you right out of the casa but its been baked under the sun for weeks in the assembly plant so there is still a chance it might get contaminated with other environmental contaminants so before you proceed with anything on your fresh car this is what i recommend you do

1. Wash the car with Joy, Yes i mentioned Joy since you will be waxing after anyway so its best to use this detergent to help remove grease and grime, it also offers great lubricity, use a decent washmitt and apply the two bucket method to ensure you don't scratch the paint, on the drying stage i also recommend you use a MF towel to dry it like Microtex Elite, Megs Water Magnet or Moms Drying Towel, of all i prefer Microtex since its larger

2. After washing and drying the car, make sure every crevice is water free, you can use a blower if you have one or you can use a straw to get to those tight spots, or you can use the ever so popular woo-woo method that i've recently learned was the term used here in tsikot from my BF, meaning blow the water out of crevices so they don't cause water marks

3. Now that you paint is clean and dry, its time to inspect the paint, get a soft plastic bag those that you usually see from the market, make sure its clean and dry and cover your hands with it and gently glide it on the paint, if you feel rough spots on the paint thats one check for Claying, if you see stains and very very light marring and micro fine scratches then its one check for polish as well

4. Now you clay first before you apply the polish, if you see that the paint is rough and doesn't have stains and is crystal clear then claying is just needed, if the paint is smooth but has some stains then polish is needed, if both checks are up then both are needed, again clay first before polish, prepare a QD solution and lots of MF for this stage.

5. Now you can apply the wax and use the QD to maintain, always remember with waxing and QDing to always use the lightest pressure when working the MF to the paint, in most cases if you wax thin and you just mist your QD you don't need pressure to make a streak free shine

Hope this helps and grats on the new car!
