    hi all!

I finally decided to get the 2003 RAV-4 SV!

i'd like to thank everyone who patiently answered all my questions since April, 2003, when i registered in this board. Ang dami ng threads na binuksan ko, or na hi-jack, here and in the car talk forum, in my quest to buy my first car [from buying a used car, or a brand new one, the 1.3 variant, or the 1.6 variant or an SUV]. i will be eternally grateful to all of you.

    1. i already read the threads on the car alarms available in the market. since keyless entry lang meron sa unit ko, do you recommend that i have a car alarm installed immediately?

    2. i chose the 3M shade which is lighter than super dark. ok na ba yun?

    3. what kind of gasoline do i use?

    4. is the HU which comes with it really bad? or puwedeng pagtiisan in the meantime? what about the speakers?

    thanks.

    btw anung color?

    i got a black one :D

since you don't have an alarm yet, what do you use to guard against car (or accessories) theft?

    baka pala cobra alarm.. hehe

sabi ng dealer ko, meron daw sila Code Alarm, 6,500. iniisip ko kung sa kanila na lang, para di na ako punta banawe or makati shops. i'm not too comfortable about going there, wala naman akong kakilala.

OT: i'm not in danger of getting married yet, hence the RAV. hahahaha! for my next car (if ever), i will choose a more sedate one (kasi mas matanda na ako by that time) and a more spacious one (in case may family na).

i'll be getting my unit from toyota makati

ako din, will ask my dealer if they can install clifford or the others and if its available at a reasonable price. kung hindi, i'll see if i can go to intense or autoline. both seem to be highly recommended here. i already posted some questions in the car alarms thread.

keep me updated naman on the alarm you'll install. thanks.

ako sa toyota commonwealth... very good service doon, kusa pinapalitan kung may problema

    April ryan,
Get the viper or clifford alarms na recomended dun saalarm thread. Sa Code alarm I'm not too keen on getting that kase sa Pajero OEM alarm nya code alarm madami pa rin nakacarnap na pajero.

Tints... I prefer Solar guard tints with sputtered metal technology than 3Ms

As for the gasoline I don't know about the 2003 rav4 but the 2004 rav4 manual recomends 95 octane gasoline kaya Caltex Gold/ Petron XCS gamit namin usually.

Ano ba HU nung 2003 rav?

btw, ever heard of cobra? same lang ba ng viper yun?

    pareng pissword,
yep same engine.. taka nga ako bakit ganun nakalagay sa 2k4 manual hehe.. pero yung RON rating dito sa pinas iba yun compared sa RON ng US. oversated yata yung sa pinas.

sabi dun sa 2k4 manual... "For all markets Except Africa use 95RON" kaya ayun Clatex gold gamit namin hehe

    WOW CONRATS APRIL RYAN!!!

    back to querries

    2. ok ang 3M tints mahal ng kaunti pero you get what you pay for.
    3. i always use 95 ron for my 96 civic
    4. pagtiisan mo muna ang speakers mo, baka mawalang bisa ang warranty mo if you dabble with wires, gets mo.

habang wala ka pang alarm, just use common sense, park youre car sa isang busy street or corner, never leave you keys kahit saglit lang, used the club or the like to sway away would be carnappers.

also get what freebies you can get at the dealer, baka naman free ang tint, alarm, floormats, LTO reg, EWD, a full tank of gas, ANYTHING!!!

yung mga alarams ngayon halos taiwan made na, mine is COBRA 2K lang yun, pero ok na.
disengaged mo lang ang self locking.

walang alarm na free, kaya magpapalagay na lang ako. already posted additional questions regarding car alarms and car tints in the appropriate threads. sana maraming sumagot

sir supierreman pwede kasi namin utangin eh hahaha

sir kimps, maganda naman ang cobra? no problem so far?

    Read your owner's manual.

Always choose your fuels by RON category:

    96 RON
    Petron Blaze

    95 RON
    Shell Velocity
    Caltex Gold

    93 RON
    Petron Unleaded
    Shell Unleaded
    Caltex Silver

I'm sure your manual recommends using 95 RON fuels. In that case, its Shell Velocity or Caltex Gold (depending on your budget and promximity to station). Its best to follow this.

But if your gas budget is tight, then go for 93 RON na lang. Cheaper cost/tank, better fuel economy (km/L), but heavier-feeling acceleration and possible engine "knocking" sound.

If engine knocking exists, then its better to stick to the recommended 95 RON.

As for 96 RON, feeling ko luho na lang yan. Sa taas naman ng mga presyo ngayon...

Don't use Petron XCS or Shell Premium Unleaded (red). They're for older cars (with lead valve seats or without catalytic converter) and therefore NOT APPROPRIATE for your RAV4.

Lastly, Shell gasolines are now formulated with a "Better Mileage" formulation. Try it. It could help stretch your tank of gas!
