If I remember correctly not all those parts are manufactured here, but its not as if this can't be done locally or alternative open sourced designs are not available. The impediment here isn't the unavailability of the manufacturing technology as much as restrictions on licensing.
Gunsmithing is a good example of disciplined manufacturing. Don't confuse that with paltik.
I love the manufacturing process and the science, just not so comfortable having a large firearms industry around given the tendency of such firms to lobby against public interest.
Funny no one's brought up semicon at all given that its 30% of our exports, and that the supporting industries adjacent to it are themselves very noteworthy in terms of skill, discipline, and precision.
