    meanwhile... in Thailand

they're already producing cars by the million

    Abhisit applauds local automobile industry

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday praised the growth of the local auto industry at the Thailand International Motor Expo but remained non-committal about government policy towards the sector.

Suparat Sirisuwannangkul, chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries' automobile club, said automobile production is poised to grow from 990,000 units in 2009 to 1.6 million this year, making the country the 13th-largest auto manufacturer.

Thailand expects to make it into the top 10 in five or six years.

Mr Suparat, also a senior executive of Bangkok-based Toyota Motor Asia Pacific, said auto production in the first 11 months of this year reached 1.49 million units, a 95% year-on-year increase.

Of the total, 668,000 units were destined for the domestic market and 827,000 for export.

In 2011, output is projected to grow 9-10% to 1.8 million units.
someone here in tsikot forums once proposed that the Philippines would be ASEAN's car production hub

Brilliant idea! We should go to war against The United States . . . tingnan nyo ang nangyari sa Japan. Pagkatapos matalo sa gyera at ma-nuclear bomb ni Uncle Sam ay tinulungan nila itong makabangon at naging economic power pa. He he he.

That's the plot of the 1959 movie "The Mouse that Roared". Small country declares war on USA, expects defeat and a generous amount of aid.

hindi na masaya ang Hyundai sa CAMPI

Hyundai grabbed market share from other CAMPI members

remember there was news Hyundai wasn't paying proper taxes on imports daw?

obviously that question was raised by insecure (or jealous) CAMPI members who lost market share to Hyundai

Hyundai bolting PH car makers’ association

Hyundai Asia Resources Inc., one of the active members of Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc., may leave the oldest organization of automotive companies “to focus on another organization that imports and distributes vehicles in the country,” an industry source said Wednesday.

“Hyundai Asia did not submit its monthly sales report to Campi for the month of November and its company officials did not attend the marketing meeting of the organization normally held every seventh day of each month,” the source said.

He said the company’s absence had caused the delay in the release Wednesday of the monthly sales report of the organization.

Some member-companies of Campi said Hyundai Asia could no longer be interested to continue its membership in the organization.

Fe Agudo, president and chief executive of Hyundai Asia, told reporters Tuesday night in Pasay City that the company was busy with its Christmas party preparations and was “not able to attend the monthly marketing meeting of Campi.”

An industry source said he found Hyundai Asia’s excuse not enough reason to skip the monthly marketing meeting of the organization.
HARI bolting out of CAMPI and moving to rival AVID?
    http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/291764...ing-rival-avid
MANILA, Philippines – Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI), the country’s third largest biggest auto player in terms of sales, has reportedly bolted out of the country’s biggest automotive association Chamber of Automotive Manufacturer Association of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) to concentrate with the newly formed Association of Vehicle Imports and Distributors (AVID).

CAMPI has not yet confirmed HARI’s alleged move to get out of CAMPI, but HARI has not submitted its monthly sales report for the November sales. The marketing group of CAMPI normally meets every 7th of each month to prepare their monthly sales report.

CAMPI members find it strange that HARI did not submit their sales report for November when the company normally submits their reports two days before deadline. CAMPI has blamed HARI for the delay in the coming out of its November sales report.

CAMPI secretary-general Homer Maranan has already followed up on HARI’s sales reports. The 16 active member CAMPI has given HARI up to yesterday, Wednesday, to submit with their reports otherwise they are going to come out with the sales report today, Thursday, without HARI.

HARI president and chief executive officer Fe Perez-Agudo told reporters during its Christmas party Tuesday night that they have been busy with the Media Christmas party and the launch of their new model Accent that they have no time to prepare for their sales report for submission to CAMPI.

Politics politics politics... They're sore that a fellow member would try to get them in trouble with the government.

Bad for CAMPI... just when it seemed that all of the major players had come into their fold, there goes one of the biggest players in the local market!

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
