Usually freon is odorless. If you suspect leakage, stop using the aircon and have it serviced immediately. Inhaling freon is very harmful as it can cause poisoning. I've seen freon charging from the tank and it emits a whitish vapor. Maybe that is what you are seeing. I suspect there is some leakage and the higher the airflow, in your case, no.2, the more it leaks freon.
Do not breath it in because it can cause the following:
- breathing problems
- fluid buildup in the lungs
- organ damage
- sudden death
Symptoms include:
irritation of the eyes, ears, and throat
headache
nausea
vomiting
frostbite (liquid Freon)
cough
chemical burn to the skin
dizziness
It is especially dangerous in a confined space, like inside your car.
