Here's what I noticed at the side of the radiator.

Is that a sign of leakage or it's just normal that I don't have to worry about? To see what's causing it, pinaandar ko po makina. Nangyari po may nadedevelop na moist and that moist I think is causing the corrosion.

    Thanks po in advance.

    Use a proper coolant.

Pwede mo din papalitan ng copper yung plastic part or replace the entire radiator.

Thanks for your inputs guys .

Something interesting I found out by google-ing. Cause if CivicVTI is right, then replacing with plastic is the right thing to do. But Dest has point as well because the function of the pressure cap is to release excess pressure.

So the question actually is, which is better? copper or plastic? Everybody who have experienced this problem is welcome to answer this question.

Car companies designed their radiators with plastic for a reason (I doubt if its for light weight purposes)...if that reason did not exist then copper radiators would be the norm for brand new vehicles. Radiator caps do fail from time to time, the plastic parts act as backup in case this happens.

*CivicVTI, okay but is that your opinion or base on facts?

I did some research on the net and it appears that the reason for using plastic over copper/brass is it's lighter weight, cheaper production cost and non-corrosive though it's not as tough as metal when it comes to pressure or stress. Here are some of the links...

My opinion is based on personal experience. All of the vehicles I've driven (Corolla, Civic, Lancer, FX, LiteAce, etc) were all equipped with stock radiators. When the '96 Civic's plastic radiator top leaked, the mileage was well over 50K and the car almost 6 years old. I had it replaced at Denso (P3,500) and the radiator never leaked again. I sold the car only last year.

I still prefer stock parts over modified materials. It looks better too and is easier to sell second hand since people tend to favor stock parts over modified when purchasing pre-owned cars.

Well you have a good point there. Actually it's my concern as well because I'm planning on selling my car late this year.

suggestion lang sir, pa overhaul mo na radiator mo. as I've seen the picture, its a sign of clogged radiator. a few hundred of pesos for radiator overhaul as compare with several thousand of pesos for underlying effect when discarded.

based on pics, tingin ko sir ay nabulok na ang clips ng radiator mo. most probably caused by leaks or moisture. it's highly probable that because of this, clogged na rin ang loob ng rad mo sir.

i've experienced this myself just this week lang. what i did was to have it overhauled * fermin's. bale top & bottom cleaning. so satisfied with their work (nakatawad pa konti, hehe). so far, hindi ko na na-experience yung pag taas ng temp ko. some experts says that every 6mos at least daw talaga dapat ang cleaning ng rad for proper maintenance. HTH
