might be a head gasket failure pero hard to say for sure

pinalitan ko na rad cap, nakabili ako sa DIY SHOP. actually 3 times nako nag overheat. the first one is last December.

the 1st one is nag-clogged ung radiator, pinalinis ko then ok na ulit. the 2nd one was last March, it was a Water Pump problem, pinalitan ko na rin then ok na. then the last one is these past few months.

i've search this forum about overheating and me nabasa ako about Cylinder head gasket, piston ring and Valve seal na mga dapat palitan pag lagi nago-overheat kahit wala naman ako makita leaks sa ilalim ng kotse. my radiator is a single row surplus.

nag canvass ako the ff: item

    cylinder head gasket - 950
    1 set piston ring - 1,000+
    2 rows evercool - 4,800
    upper & lower hose - 580
ba to located? and mga magkano kaya tong valve seal?
kindly give me also an idea kung mga magkano sisingilin ng mekaniko pag
    lahat nito eh papalitan.

i can't go to speedyfix, dito kasi ko sa Dagupan medyo hindi pa pwede ibyahe malayo dahil nga mago-overheat.

    thanks for any info.

    mahal din pala new radiator,

maybe thermostat problem din sa akin, really need a mchanic for that.

will also buy a new radiator cap narin kahit wala ako kita signs my old one is broken. along with prestone chemicals, a new cap might actually be a good quick solution (may sale sa handyman this weekend, thats where i intend to buy these stuff)

i cant see any leaks, all caps and hoses secured. all fans are working. one a 90min drive to makati temp usually jumps to 95deg in traffic but gradually lowers back to the normal 90deg. but it has never reached 100deg. and it hasnt overheated yet (even with the replaced broken radiatior since it was detected while parked and not on the road).

toyota corolla gli, 1996 MT. using a 50/50 water/prestone mix
replaced radiator with a surplus one about 8mos ago.

could i have a blocked radiator, it being a surplus? were does the water go if its not leaking or even evaporating. no traces i can detect. a faulty temp gauge perhaps, reading at a minus 10deg?

i want to know possibilities and try some DIY, before going to a mechanic

    thanks

iam getting the same problem... yun nga lang nagiistart n magsignal ng overheat. 1st last jan and 2ng this april. BTW san mo pla nabili yung surplus na radiator.do u still remember the shop?thanks.

pero di pa naman ko naoverheat kahit kailan. still experience losing water in the reservoir probably around 2 glasses of water every two days.

Honda 95 -99 models as per experience in my shop from late last year upto now we have overhauled and changed their radiators more than any other car make of the same year model.

Surplus ones are not as reliable as getting a replacement because you might get a lemon which could only last you for a couple of months.
Replacements cost around 2500 to 3500
Overhauling top and bottom (full overhaul) cost 1600
    Top overhaul 800 pesos.
Make sure when you have it overhauled that you let your mechanic observe it for a couple of hours, because sometimes there are faulty overhauls when they did not clean properly the plates and the sediments is still there and still circulates in your car.
