When i bought a new compressor last year the old lady in the shop specifically told me to disengage the aircon during speeds of more than 100 kph to prolong compressor life. Does this make sense?

Anyway, when I used the car 2 weeks ago at medyo nagmamadali, I average 100-110 kph and 2 hours later before I arrived at my folk's home. Nawala lamig ng aircon.
Naisip ko tuloy sinabi ng ale? What gives or is it just a thermostat problem?
