I recently changed jobs - I previously worked in Alabang, but now I am working in Makati. I had my car checked at Good Year in Alabang so that whatever needs to be fixed/replaced will be done before I drive the car along EDSA and the complicated streets of Makati. For 4 years going to and from the office (and the occasional side trips), I never had any problem with the car.

The shop tuned up the car, cleaned whatever needs to be cleaned (replaced air filters, etc.) and changed the oil.

A week later, I noticed that the A/C is not cooling properly. I had the compressor replaced 1.5 years ago (costed me 20k!) and since then it was very efficient. It was even so cold at the lowest gauge the window moists most of the time.

I returned the car to Good Year and they checked the A/C. I know little about cars so I don't know if mentioning to them that it might be due to the cleaning they did a week before that could have caused the problem was stupid or not.

They checked the hood and couldn't find a leak. They suggested to just have the car loaded with Freon and come back if the A/C went warm. It did, after 5 days.

Now they quoted me almost 12K to have the evaporator, expansion valve and filter drier replaced, and other stuff (oring, aurotape, nitro) replaced. They would also charge me 1500 for the A/C cleaning and 950 for the Freon.

The evaporator need not be changed if the cause of the leak was just loose fitting.

It is a huge amount of money and am considering going to another shop for a second opinion. Currently, I am driving all the way to the office without A/C. The heat is bearable but the pollution is worse.

I need your help.
