I am really amazed at the technical knowledge you and others have on this field...thanks for your advice, you and speedy fix are right, i should also consider just replacing the unit if the cost is not that much more.....i will also check the gaskets (i am assuming they can be replaced).....

i have a feeling some fool must have leaned on it while replacing the spark plugs or something like that......
