what happens if your compressor leaks and runs out of compressor oil? how will it affect the engine?

are we talking about A/C compressor? if yes, AFAIK, eventually mawawala lamig ng A/C mo because of the leak.

Remember A/C system is a close system, so kung may tagas na langis yan (normally from shaft seals) may lumalabas din na freon yan, eventually mawawala lamig.

Kung mapabayaan mo na mawalan ng langis A/C compressor mo, masisira ang internals ng compressor mo which will either require you to buy a new/surplus compressor or have your compressor overhauled (note: not all type of A/C compressor can be overhauled).

on my first car, my compressor was overhauled, tumagal naman ng 2 years, it was a Sanden compressor.

As explained by *artpogi, there will be no more cooling on your A/C and it would be useless to turn it on if that's the case. Have the compressor & your A/C system checked. There might be problems other than the loss of compressor oil.
On the repair / purchase, it boils down to economics IMHO. As long as the cost to repair is far less than the cost of buying a brand new unit or a surplus compressor and parts availability is also one factor to consider.

worst talaga sa a/c compressor if may leak kasi kasama din freon ang ma waste.. malaman lng talaga if wla ng ginaw yung aircon.. masisira din ata yung compressor dahil yong oil ang nag lu-lubricate ng bearings sa loob.. tama ba? anywayz some other shops would directly tell you to replace your a/c with a shocking price but some will just say overhaul lng.

Meron un iba, meron din naman palit. Ako biktima ng palit kasi durog na loob. bwisit na a/c compressor yan! Sabagay after 12 years?! Not bad.

Separate systems naman ang a/c at engine. Kahit sumabog compressor, aandar pa din engine. Huwag lang mag-stuck up yung a/c pulley kasi yun ang direct link sa engine.

Mawawalan ng lamig a/c kapag nawalan ng oil.

Catastrophic failure na ata pag naubos ng tuluyan ang oil. The only way to find out if it can be overhauled is by opening it up to see what actually got damaged. Kapag yung misming casing na or yung piston ang nasugatan, better get surplus or buy a [ouch] new one.

Kelan ka nagpunta? Andun ako nung Lunes, Martes, at kanina. hehehe. Kanina lang kasi ako nagbayad.

Yung surplus ko at least 3 years naman nabubuhay. Mura lang naman ang package deal ng surplus kina Mang Mario. 6 months warranty din.
