radiator fan not spinning

guys, question:

is the radiator fan supposed to be spinning ALL THE TIME?

kasi kahapon, i opened the hood to investigate a noise i've been hearing for the past few days (it turns out my aircon compressor needs some oiling). tapos napansin ko, the radiator fan is not spinning. malamig pa naman yung makina because it was early morning. and the temperature gauge indicates wala pa sa kalahati yung init.

hindi pa naman ako nag-ooverheat. been using the car daily except pag coding. temperature gauge always stays in the middle.

is the fan supposed to be spinning only when the engine becomes hot enough tapos mamamatay pag malamig na or malamig pa?

The belt driven fan spins with the engine (more or less at the same speed depending on how hot the engine is).

The electric fans on most cars have thermo-switches which only kick them in when needed.

sir otep, my car is a civic 98 vti. do you think it is one of those cars with the thermo switch things? kahapon ko lang kasi na-notice and hindi ako ganun ka-knowledgeable sa mga cars. salamat salamat

yup, your car has a thermo switch. pag mainit na yung car (that meanas half na yung temp. sa gauge mo) dapat mag o-on yung fan ng radiator mo. subukan mo minsan silipin. pag hinde nag-on yun, ibig sabihin either sira yung: fan or thermo switch.

pero hinde ka naman nag-o-overheat eh. how many times ka maglagay ng water/coolant a month?

If you don't overheat, don't worry. Fans on front wheel drive cars don't spin all the time.

di pa ulit ako naglalagay. hindi pa naman nababawasan yung coolant. nasa "max" level pa rin.

yep, hindi pa naman ako nagooverheat. laging nasa middle lang yung temperature gauge ko

hi to all, sa akin din ganyan, kaya lang na observe ko kapag di ko ginagamit ang a/c, di yata nagana rad fan(+aux fan) kaya minsan halos lumampas sa gitna temp gauge ko, kaya ngayon pirmi ang a/c ko na lang - di na umaabot sa gitna gauge ko... magastos nga lang kasi pang gabi work ko, pag walang ulan malamig naman....

mga sir,yes yung rad fan di nag spin pag less than half ang temp gauge. on some cars it reads 108 degree before its starts kasi sealed cooling system boiling point is well above the h2o boiling point. the temp sensor gives the message to the ecu then it switches the relay that turns the fan. fan could have 2 to 3 speed defend on the system design.but it should spin when you switch on the a/c.kahit less ang temp.

Last saturday, when I was on my way to my girl's house, I noticed tumaas yung temp gauge ko,so what I did is turn off the AC hanggang dumating sa house ng gf ko.after that,I checked on the coolant,mataas pa naman.So I turned off the engine. Nung paghatid ko sa kanya sa office,hindi na tumaas uli,hanggang sa paguwi ko.the next day,binugahan ko ng tubig yung radiation, and then I tested it again,left the engine running with the ac on for 1 hour, ndi naman na tumaas uli.ano kaya prob nun? Help naman guys. Thanks!!!

sir baka naman nag i stick thermostat valve mo kaya intermittent pa check mo kasi pag nag overheat may chance na mag crack ang radiator top mo plastic pa naman yan.or just be vigil dalasan mo sulyap sa temp gauge mo hangang feel confident ka na ok talaga.

*bennysy: broken thermostat, most likely, so your main radiator fan doesn't react to temperature. Had that once before... just left my aircon on all the time.

Simple cure to do at home? rekta. Wire your fan directly to the battery for the meantime. But for a total cure, you should have your thermostat checked.

drove from valenzuela to makati today. temperature gauge stuck at middle. so mukhang ok lang. di naman ako itinirik

sir di yan iikot kpag di pa sya half sa guage.. automatic kasi yan sir..

Warning: pag tata-as ng half yan hinto mo agad let the engine turn on and open the hood try to check if the fan is spinning if not check the fuse (tighten) sa box fuse . if not spinning probably the fan is busted.

nung chineck ko the following day,umaandar naman yung 2 fans,and hindi na tumataas yung gauge.weekends ko lang ksae kung gamitin yung car.kaya,check ko uli this weekend

Hi uli mga sir!!!

Same pa rin,tumataas pa rin yung temp gauge ko.check ko yung radiator fan,parang wala sa timing yung pagikot nya.pag lumagpas na sa kalahati,saka lang umiikot.minsan sandali lang off ,nanaman.I'm planning to have it checked tomorrow,kaso sunday,mukhang mahirap maghanap ng shop.ant recommendations? dito ako sa T.Sora area, saka any idea kung magkano po aabutin?thanks!!!

sir na check mo naba fuse ng aux fan mo? if ok sya tignan mo thermostat mo..

better check it out para wlang hassle.. :sweat:
