Has anyone here tried that already? When boarding the barge, do we need any special documents for the car? or just the photocopy of OR/CR would do?

I know you'll just need a photcopy of your CR and OR... PNP clearance isnt needed anymore i think but it might come in handy if you bring one along as well. Bring also a photocopy of your driver's license.![]()
I've done it twice Manila to Ormoc, Leyte. Cguro abutin ng 1000 pesos ung car/van/pick-up
last Dec. nag travel rin kami going to Leyte. Puede na yung PNP clearance pero don't forget your OR just incase.
Road to watch.
- Samar
- between Lopez & Gumaca (spelling?)
Around how long before the ferry is scheduled to leave should one be there at the latest (i.e. 830am yung ferry schedule, what time before should i get there?).
How long does it take to get your car on and off the ferry?
Originally Posted by vinj

Around how long before the ferry is scheduled to leave should one be there at the latest (i.e. 830am yung ferry schedule, what time before should i get there?).

I usually leave Manila around 12MN dating ako Matnog around 2pm. Ung town before reaching San Juanico bridge sama ng daan. Nung January may nagaaspalto for a few kilometers sa daan, dumikit lahat sa ilalim ng sasakyan hirap alisin.
Ingat ka sa daan at Samar's streets are lined with craters big ones. Ung Quirino Hiway after Tagkawayan Quezon hanggang Camarines sama din ng daan.
It pays to have good lighting. Hope this helps
Kalinaw_75, katutubong Maynila na ako but my family is from Bacolod-Iloilo.
I was supposed to do the nautical highway drive until Cagayan de Oro then back to Manila via Leyte but we could not get our schedules cleared up long enough for the trip... sayang.
On planning a road trip, try the EZ Map Philippines... quite helpful IMO.
Kalinaw, ung wife ko ang from Ormoc City her parents still live there so we make it a point to go there at least once a year to visit. Sarap din ang long drive na ganyan mas tipid pa kaysa mag plane so during the last two years by land kami lagi.OT: Leyteno ka rin pala wombat. Ako taga Leyte to be specific Hilongos.
Drove from Manila to Negros Oriental via Samar, Leyte and Cebu last December. 4 days and 3 nights kasi ayaw namin magbyahe sa gabi in unfamiliar territory.
Papers, copy of OR/CR and your drivers license lang, at minsan binabalik lang sa yo.
Time before departure? Pag-konti lang ang trips (i.e. twice a day), as early as you can! One trip I made from Puerto Galera to Batangas, I had to be at the pier 5 hours before! kaya lakad-lakad na lang sa beach, etc. habang nag-aantay
Pag maraming ferry sa port (i.e Allen or Matnog), 1-2 hrs before puede pa, at pag na miss mo naman, you can just wait for the next one. Best to call the ferry companies, Philtranco, and local PPA for schedules depending on your destination.
Tama sabi ng iba dito, roads in Samar to Leyte can be hell on a car's suspension, kaya dahan-dahan lang.
Guess you know, you can now drive to Caticlan (i.e. to Boracay) via the Strong Republic Nautical Highway? Very car-friendly pa daw. Route is Batangas-Calapan, Mindoro-Roxas, Mindoro-Caticlan, Panay...3 RORO ferries OR Batangas to Caticlan straight! May iba pa atang variations.
Tsikot in Boracay??? Cool!!
Originally Posted by wombat

wow! Manila to Negros?
Going to Cebu saan kayo dumaan sa Isabel or Ormoc then paano nyo tinawid ang Cebu to Negros?
Good to explore diba.
Last Holy week naka uwi naman kami sa Leyte (coz limited lang ang time nag plane na lang kami). As usual mainit pag summer so we decided on Island tripping. If youre really into exploring undevelop beach, i believe those Island are worth to try. My mga pix ako sa Island if you like it i can share with you , kaso nga lan yung isang Island hindi ko nakunan nang pix, naka limutan kasi ang d-cam sa pagmamadali
Here's part of the Nautical Highway route:
Batangas City - Calapan (Mindoro), Roxas (Mindoro) - Caticlan, Iloilo- Bacolod, Dumagete - Dapitan

Grabe sa Samar no? Pinsan ko drove through there back in early 90's and sabi niya good condition pa daw yung Samar roads noon, but parang depressed talaga ekonomiya ng Samar, kaya mabagal yung maintenance sa road nila. But the road really shapes up from Sohotan national park through Leyte, almost to the point of "boring"
With the new nautical highway route, I can bypass Samar na :D
Re the white sand island, hindi kaya Biliran island yun? Maganda daw doon!
Hi guys,
Samar road:
There's this stretch from Calbayog to Catbalogan, about 70kms, used to take it in half hour driving, but for for the last two years, 2 hours na byahe ko dito.
Am wondering lang why of all sorts, nakakakuha ng mga loans to improve the road in Eastern and Northern Samar but not in Western Samar.
But, speaking of roads, ganda ng sa Sorsogon, wide na with shoulders pa sa mga bends.
This year, baka pumunta din kami sa Negros.
By the way, ilang kayong nag papalitan sa driving?
Exercise, less food, and during travel, iniiwasan ko yong mabusog, baka antukin ako.
Gulliver,
Hindi Biliran Island (i know Maripepe) yun... gitna nang Western Leyte. Na upload kuna ang pix you can view at pitstop with a subject abt. vacation.
RedHorse,
That's awesome half an hour driving.... kung hindi ako nagkamali it takes 3 - 4 Hrs. for me.
RedHorse,
ganda nga sorsogon roadsmy wife and i travelled alone so ako lang nag-drive. 10 hrs from Pasig to Matnog, including a 45 minute stopover in Naga for lunch, and 30-minute siesta in front of Mayon along the hiway, under the trees. i love to drive so it wasn't too bad. return trip was 9 hours because my wife decided to fly back to Manila, tigas pa kasi suspension ko noon hehehe...
Kalinaw_97,
ok, will check it out and sure it will be nice. I stayed at Hotel Fernando's in Tacloban, and really enjoyed looking at the extensive WWII picture museum they have there. awesome!
