Injury & Fireworks during the New Year celebration.

Have you ever gotten injured because of fireworks during the new year celebration?

I haven't had any firework related injuries, because even as kids living in Quezon City, we seldom went out of the house on New Year's Eve for fear of being hit by stray bullets.

just minor burns and temporary blindness due to fireworks exploding too close... i think it's quite common. we don't celebrate with fireworks anymore though. it's not good for the environment and it can be quite expensive.

No, but I had close calls when I was younger.

One time, naputukan ako ng 5-star sa kamay kasi ambilis masunog nung mitsa. Buti na lang walang naputol na daliri or dugo, pero nabingi ako. Couldn't hear a thing for about 10 minutes, and there was a constant ringing in my ears. Also, another time, pumutok yung 5-star when I was stamping on it to put it out. Suwerte na lang, kasi makapal yung goma ng tsinelas ko.

I've abstained from lighting firecrackers for over 20 years. Sayang kasi ang pera, it would be literally burning your money. May mga kapitbahay kasi kami na nagwawaldas ng mga 30k siguro for firecrackers, so what I do, pagkatapos nyang magsindi ng pyrotechnics, eh lumalabas ako ng bahay at umaasta na parang ako yung nag-sindi, hehehe. Feeling rich ba...

no, fountain lang kami....para naman maenjoy ng mga kidsa kahit papano...yung roman candle na sinasabi nila na safe for the kids di rin totoo..pumuputok din sya....

better stay and watch na lang sa mga rich na neighbor na nagsisisindi ng pyrotechnics....as what galactus said...hihihi

contrary to all above posters I really go out my way and buy firecrackers...hehehhe sarap magpaputok pag new year eh, but half-half na ngayon...more on ligthing effects na lang yun mga dragon fireworks na nasa box then dragon fountains in all the colors available, but meron pa rin mga "traditonal" for this year siguro 500-600 sticks na lang ng kwitis and 2 pcs 1k sinturon ni hudas.....for the finale....

thanked GOD a lot because when i was a kid, i used to lit not ordinary triangles but those oversized and prohibited ones like bawang, super lolo, whistle bomb and alike.. better known as the real finger/s busting types
i used to pick up also some pieces of triangles to make pillbox without knowing that in a second, it could blow up not only my hands but my face as well

No! Kasi pag nag sindi ako ng paputok, gamit ko katol strapped on a stick kaya malayo sakin yung paputok. Pero lately, di na din ako gumagamit ng paputok.

I just use our old FIAMM air horn, attach it on my air compressor and viola! Limited supply of honking sound. :lol: Dinig ako up to the next barangay.

may 2nd cousin ako.. mag new year nang 1993.. he was at his room.. iniipon yung powder nang 5 star sa bote nang beer.. tinataktak daw nya para masiksik.. when it exploded.. parang may granada na sumabog sa lakas.. basag lahat nang windows sa room nya.. he was temporarily blind.. went up.. went to the bathroom para maghilamos daw.. problema.. hindi nya mabuksan yung gripo.. then it hit him.. both his hands were gone.. don na sya hinimatay.. he was 12 or 13 that time.... ngayon parati lang sya sa loob nang bahay.... kaya simula non.. never na kami humawak kahit anong klaseng paputok..

^^^grabe naman yan, kaya rule of thumb ko, basta nasindihan na pumutok o hinde...di ko na kukunin....and I never lit it na hawak ko lagi ko binababa sa sahig bago sindihan...

Ako nung bata mahilig sa five star na hahawakan ko tapos sabay sindi and bato....Paangasan pa kami ng barkada kung sino matagal bitawan yung five star habang nakasindi.....

Naalala ko pa yung Pla-Pla, Super Lolo, Bawang....Pero hindi naman hinahawakan yun.....isinisingit namin yung dulo sa canal para pag sumabog eh tatalsik yung tubig.... :bwahaha:

I remember several years ago masyadong mabilis pumutok
yung pack ng five-star na nabili ko hahit normal naman
yung haba ng mitsa.

Ayun on the 12th firecracker, mga 2 feet pa lang away from
my hand after I threw it pumutok na!.When I looked at my
right arm near the elbow may dugo na, natalsikan ng pulbura.

Buti na lang registered nurse yung neighbor namin and he cleaned
the wound right away.

Sabi niya dapat daw linisin agad ang sugat sa paputok kasi
local firecrackers are mixed with cow/carabao manure and this

After that incident hindi na ako nagpapaputok, watch nalang

Nung bata pa ako (elementary to highschool), matapang talaga akong magpaputok ng mga 5-star and bigger firecrackers. Buti hindi ako naputukan. It was when we transferred to our new house when I stopped lighting firecrackers. Puro mga Dragon fireworks nalang.

I got hit on the side of my face by a few rockets from a box of whisting rockets. I lost some hairs on my side burns that night.

Another time, a roman candle blew up in my hand. Good thing the "handle" was a hollow piece of cardboard. But that gave me the fear of holding roman candles and lusis.
