Q: int'l airline baggage limit

talaga bang strictly implemented yung 20-kg. limit lalo na sa cathay pacific? i have several business trips abroad in the past and the latest of which was more than a year ago na and my baggage probably had reach more than 20 kgs pero walang charge. pwede bang i-bribe yung airport personnel na nagkikilo ng baggage? i'm moving to UK kasi and i'll be bringing up my stuff, so it's impossible for me to carry only a 20-kg. baggage. yung charge kasi sa cathay $37/kg in excess of 20 kgs. ...also, bakit pag papuntang US 32 kgs. ang limit? are americans (and people going to US) special when it comes to baggage limit?

also, i'm thinking of sending some extra stuff thru philphost parcel service. not cheap because a 5-kg. parcel cost almost P5,000. is it safe to send my extra stuff via philpost? anyone has an experience on philphost 5-day delivery parcel service? nakapagpadala na ako before thru philpost din but a small parcel with no comercial value (to them) and some important documents at wala namang problema except that the parcel was delivered more than a week. yung isa inabot pa yata ng 2 weeks.

any other parcel courier that i can avail in cheaper rate? thanks in advance.

sa e-ticket kasi ng cathay na nakuha ko 20kg ang limit as indicated sa bawat flight...and much to my surprise, naakalagay sa bottom page 32kgs max limit. so i asked the cathay ticketing personnel kung ano talaga ang limit...sabi yung 32kg limit para lang sa US destination.

depende yan sa dami ng passenger on your flight. kapag konti lang, pumapayag silang mag excess ka sa baggage mo. up to more than 10kgs.

i doubt that the baggage limit depends on the number of passengers on the flight... so, what if the flight is fully booked and some passengers exceeds their baggage limit? i dont think that they're gonna turn that passenger away or put their luggage on a different flight. personally, i think this is their own way to make extra money - hehehe!!! i'm just kidding... but if someone can explain this to me. cool!

it depends on the airline, the destination and the length of the trip. generally asian airlines have higher baggage allowances (except for singapore airlines and as you mentioned cathay pacific). also flights from europe/usa to asian destinations have higher baggage allowances (check out pal and thai airways, usa to phil route is something like 60 kg). also the farther the destination the higher is the allowance.

TIP KO SA IYO: why not send your excess luggage by "unaccompanied luggage". this is also through the airline but since it does not come with you during your scheduled flight (meaning they send it at their convenience, when there is extra cargo space available on their other flights) then it is much much much cheaper than what they charge for excess baggage. if the excess check-in baggage is charged at $37/kg the unaccompanied baggage charge may be as low as $4/kg, or 10% of their normal charge. THE CATCH: you need to get it from the customs office of the destination airport yourself or by a shipping agent, which means it is taxed as normal freight. but since it is in the UK then it should be ok, no hassles.

so how do you go about this? inform your airline early (like 1-2 weeks before your flight) that you will be sending unaccompanied luggage. they will advise you when to bring it to their cargo handling agent/office (normally a few days before your flight). after you arrive at your destination you then call the airline office to inquire if your shipment has arrived. you/your agent pick it up at the airport customs after paying the taxes. simple, a lot cheaper than paying $37/kg.

(what you do not want to do is send unaccompanied baggage TO THE PHILIPPINES. sobra hassle sa naia customs, something like 22 signatures just to release 1 shipment. although the tax is very small the hassle of going from one customs official to the next just to get 1 signature will kill you! and the corruption, aaaagh! minsan may kinuha ako na baggage ng sister ko, the tax was only P900, pero yung lagay at palakad sa fixer inabot ng P3000! kainis. napilitan na ako gumamit ng fixer kasi 1 day na ako dun 2 signatures pa lang nakuha ko. the next day yung may fixer na naglakad ng papers 2 hours lang tapos na yung 20 signatures! )

you've said.several business trip abroad you made! so some airline introduce a frequent flier card which a passenger avail extra kilos limit which appear on your normal ticket baggages.usually this extra kilos will appear only in their computer system that you have 15 kilos additional. all you have to do is inquire your nearest travel agent or airlines and ask this privilege,ok and good luck"HAPPY TRIP"

it's not the limit, but the leniency of the check-in attendants in allowing free excess baggage.

it would be cheaper if you have your personal stuff shipped by sea freight, if you don't need them immediately since it will take a month to get there.

sea freight is cost effective.

around a month ang time it will take to get to uk. plus the fact na ang computation is done per cubic meter, unlike sa Parcel/courier service per kg ang measurement.

I dont know sinong forwarder gumawa ng door to door pa punta UK, pero US madami ako alam.


Pag napadaan ka sa domestic airport pwede ka mag pa qoute sa mga freight forwarders nanaka hilera dun kung magkano yung LCL, loose cargo load, eto yung term ginagamit pag hindi isang container van kukunin mo pa punta sa UK or US , per CM, or cubic meter ang pricing nito, yung US, around 200 Dollars ang 1 Cubic meter, kagandahan nito sila na bahala sa documentations at napapalusot nila ang cargo na taxable, as long pwede mapalusot as personal belongings, yung counter part nila sa UK, US ang bahala sa pagpalabas sa customs yung package mo, at i deliver sa door step mo sa UK , kung DOOR TO DOOR ang usapan nyo.


so basically hingin mo magkano DOOR TO DOOR Rates nila. around 20 to 40 days depende sa destination

tama si boybi depende sa ticketing agent of said airline,kasi ako last time na umuwi pabalik dito sa us sumobra ako ng mga 15lbs total sa lahat ng baggage ko dahil naman daw sa marami na akong dala ok naman na magexcess kasi nag compensate na sa total quantity ng allowed baggages,five ang total ko six ang allowed sa amin so ok na.

korean air,two years ago pa yun like i said depende sa agent ng airline.cathay talagang mahigpit kahit kelan, PAL naman talagang di ka uubra kasi sa dami ng pasahero puno at overbooked sila palagi.

it all depends where ur going.......sa us, ur allowed i know 32 kg/ea bag. 2 bags max. sa asia destinations like hk, 20kg but pumapayag naman sila up to 32.

Long haul flights have higher baggage weight limits.

It's discretionary depending on the airline and the load factor of the flight.
