we will be buying a surplus a/t next year. our a/t is long overdue for replacement. buying a brand new is not an option...

but we don't know how to detect a good condition a/t as long as the torque converter is closed. anybody has tips, clues how pick a good one?

if you are familiar with a/t:
    1. you should be aware of the unecessary noise during acceleration.
    2. check the water temperature guage, it should not exceed its normal level.
    3. check the smell of the atf, dapat di amoy sunog
    4. dapat maganda ang pick-up during accelearation

I don't see any a/t overhaul shops in my small province. if there is, I doubt those mechanics are experienced enough... and a surplus will cost less than 10k lang kasi eh... and the ride is a surplus toyota townace 3ct.

is there a technique how to spot a good tranny? I guess checking the atf of the tranny is one way right?

*eyshmechanic: the a/t's is no longer attached to the ride when inspected in surplus shops. so I can't check most of those ways...
