    Good day,

I have an imported from japan automatic mitsubishi car. The problem of the car is that when i'm driving it, after a while the "N" or neutral signal will start blinking eventhough i'm still in "D" or drive. And after a complete stop and after i shifted the gear to D, the car accelerates very slow, so slow that it is not capable of going over small inclines on the road. But after i press the acceleration pedal long enough and when (i think) it changes to 2nd gear, the car will now run smoothly and fast until after another complete stop wherein it will run very slow again which is not normal. This problem disappears when i turn off and start the car again but the problem returns after the car is accelerating for a few seconds or minutes. But the car runs normally or smoothly when it is in 2nd gear, but it has difficulty in 1st gear.

I have already gone to an automatic transmission specialist in Kamias, he changed the atf and said that i have to fix the electronic connection between the transmission box and computer box.

A mechanic in banawe said that my transmission is broken and i should replace it.

Another mechanic in makati said that the "screen?" of the transmission should be cleaned in order for the atf to flow more freely.

My questions are: whats wrong with the car and where can i go to fix it?

Any help is much appreciated. This is my first car and I don't know anything about cars. Thank you in advance.

When you change the Atf fluid did they removed the transmission pan to clean the filter inside you can see some small particles of metal debris to be removed before putting a new ATF fluid.

you need to get the tranny scanned for any codes stored before anything else to be done.

Try what the 2nd mechanic said and ignore the 1st mechanic with the replacing tranny suggestion, even it it's broken all you would need is a rebuild kit to repair it not a whole tranny.

Nope, i don't think that they removed the transmission pan to clean the filter inside. I think this was the suggestion of the last mechanic that i went. Do you know any trusted shop? How much for the cleaning? Thank you for your reply.

Where can i get my tranny repaired? I'm afraid of mechanics that will overprice their service because i don't know anything about cars. Should i just get my tranny repaired or clean the filter first before repairing the tranny?

I already went to a mitsubishi service center in UN, but they do not accept imported cars and that my car was not released here in the country.

I just noticed you mentioned that the tranny specialist already told you what needs to be fixed. Have you fixed that problem already? If not fix that first before looking at other solutions. The tranny specialist should be able to rebuild your tranny if he is in fact a specialist.

Yup, he said that i should fix the connection between the transmission box and computer box. But i have my doubts about this solution because then he said that i should call him the next day and that we will go to an electrician that he personally knows, and he can't say where it is because his boss might get mad at him for recommending someone else. What do you think? Do you know any trusted shops?

I'm a car dealer and have a lot of experience with this kind of problem.Go to Banaue and look for Baltak Auto Shop, near E rodriguez side.(just ask around). look for Mang Arsing. They specialize in japan matic, surplus engines etc. They've done repairs on automatic trannies of my cars like japan pajero, hiace, rvr, delicas, spacegears, even local cars like mitsubishi galant ,lancers and civics. The price is quite reasonable, if they replace the whole tranny it would cost you anywhere 14thou-23thou.But most of the time they will replace the damaged parts only, and it usually cost somewhere 4-8thou. PM me I'll give you his phone number.Goodluck

Thank you for the reply. Someone told me that replacing an imported tranny would amount to 60k and overhauling the tranny would cost me 30-40k, is this right? Are the mechanics in Baltak honest, in a sense that they will not tell you that this part is damaged even if its not.

they replaced the automatic tranny of my pajero for 25thou.And I had a 2003 honda city idsi whose shifting was sluggish, they replaced the sensor 5thou lang. They will replace only the parts that needs replacement. They also fix the wiring, sometimes kasi thats the root of the problem and not the tranny itself.

60thou would be the cost if you replace the whole engine na!Just look for Mang Arcing and he will give you an estimate for the repairs to be done.Sometimes he does home service to my shop here in Mindanao Ave but the parts still comes from Banaue so its better if the repairs would be done in baltak banaue.

Sometimes its hard to diagnose a tranny problem on a particular vehicle, like the imported mitsubishi spacegear that I had.It took them 3 tries before finally fixing the problem.

If so many parts needs replacement, tip ko lang na suggest mo na palitan na lang the whole tranny.

Thank you for your reply. Should I still have my transmission cleaned before going to Baltak and hope that it gets fixed or should i just go straight to Baltak? If i have it repaired in Baltak, will it take them more than one day to repair or replace the tranny?

you will be able to flash the codes by grounding the terminal #1 from diagnostic connector . turn the key off and ground the said terminal ,ignition on ,and read the N - light flashes.
