noob question mga sir. Ano yung nagyayari sa makina mo kapag nahihirapan na magaccelerate pataas ng hill kasi kulang yung acceleration mo at kelangan mo ng mag downshift?
from experience in years of driving, malaman mo rin when to stay in D and when to shift to N in a traffic stop, or in stop & go traffic. kung slow moving traffic lang i just use the brake to control my speed, no need to step on the gas. it is only when in really bumper to bumper traffic that i have to gas-brake-gas-repeat to maintain a few feet of distance from the car in front otherwise masisingitan ka.
one other reason naman i shift to N when in a stop is to minimize disk warpage. especially if you've been driving for a while and been braking heavily, the front discs can get very hot. so when you stay pressed on the brake on a long stop, nagkaroon ng uneven temperature distribution. also the pads, especially the stiction type pads, may deposit some residue that can get built up over time. so especially now with timed traffic stops, and you know there's still a minute or so you'll have to wait, i just shift to N when in level ground, and N+handbrake when you feel the car is moving. the rear brakes naman don't get that hot, be it drum or disc.
very very seldom din that i use 2 or even L. going to baguio through kennon road with four passengers and some luggage, D lang ako and doesn't even need to use O/D off. pababa naman, i only needed to use 2 on long downhills coz of slow moving vehicles, esp. trucks. otherwise, i can coast downhill on D with occasional braking with no problem.
do not do this! parking brakes is for parking not when you are at a traffic stop. picture this, what if your parking brake cable broke doing this, what if somebody rear ended you at a high rate of speed, instead of making the car roll and reduce the impact, you have the full force of neck braking whiplash.
if your parking brakes broke and your in Neutral then its not a level ground, chances are you will roll slowly (depends on angle/degree of level), you will feel that and instantly slap on the brakes!
if someone rear ended you with your parking brakes??? parking brakes are not that strong, and your car will still roll a bit IMHO
use parking brakes + Neutral if the road is not level because you will move/roll... if the ground is level no need for parking brakes i think
it is a matter of your personal preference but even the most experienced truck and rig drivers do not apply their parking brakes. these are the people who make a living driving intercontinental as much as 12 hours average a day. the do not assume that the all parking brakes are that weak. if your rear brakes are servo type drum brakes, the impact is still less if you, being the car being rear ended is cushioned by the rolling of the car than when you are the stationary object being hit by a projectile as heavy as your car

Should you really shift to neutral when stuck in traffic? - Motormouth Online | TopGear.com.ph
Kapag nakaapak ako sa brake sa stoplight ay ok lang ba na nakahandbrake ako and kapag long stop naman lagay ko sa neutral and handbrake ulit or hindi na kailangan hand brake kapag nakaapak ako sa brake or nakalagay sa neutral?
SO pag start ng car diba naka apak sa brake pero kapag **** na ako sa N or R ay nakaapak parin ba ako dapat sa brake?
Yari tayo riyan, bro!
Basta pag start mo,- dapat naka-P ka...
Iyong iba may safety feature,- you cannot start the unit unless the tranny is in P (kahit N,- hindi mag-i-start). Wala ni kahit redondo....
