Just asking... I've finished my 10k km checkup, and since I'm past the break-in period, I'm going for full synth engine oil next checkup, with the option of going for a fully synthetic tranny oil also...

Does anyone know where I can get Shell synthetic transmission oil? I really want to keep my transmission in good shape... I try not to drag it, and I definitely don't drag race it, but I do drive hard every now and then, and this isn't the smoothest of gearchanges... suggestions, anyone?

I havent seen Shell synth tranny oil but i think Liqui Moly and Mobil have somewhere around here. Have you checked out True Value and Hans Tools?

Ford Lynx RS... now at 11,178km. :D ...lube specified is GL-5, SAE 75W-90 or SAE 80W-90

    To quote roydok's guide:
GL-5; Specified for hypoid gear service but with shock loads and severe service operation. Usually meets Mil-L-2105D and in most cases, is the multipurpose automotive gear oil. Most 75W90 to 75W140 grades meet the GL-5 classification. This grade has a high level of Extreme-Pressure additives that could be mildly corrosive to nonferrous parts, such as brass, bronze and aluminum parts. Most of the modern GL-5 lubes contain metal deactivators that prevents attacks by the extreme-pressure additives. In addition to EP additives, these lubes contain rust inhibitors, defoamants, friction modifiers, thickeners, and Viscosity Index Improvers.

speedyfix: Ok, will look at Autoplus.

vinj: Kaya nga Shell, kasi ang alam ko Redline puwede. Yung Mobil1 sana na tranny oil, pero according to the US Mazda site, said additives present in Mobil1 full-synth GL-5 tend to eat into this gearbox... I'm wondering if Shell's oil would do the same, but it should be okay, as using Shell lube put in by the casa will not void my warranty.

I heard Autotechnika in Fairview has synth gear oils instock. The brand just slipped off my mind while posting.

Use Redline synth oils if allowed:
    1) MT90- 75w90, GL 4 compatible
    2) 75w90NS- GL5 compatible

I'd check if oil used by casa is really a GL4 or GL5 oil coz of additives in GL5 oils that may harm yellow metals.

On Redline oils, although this is only from what i heard, my friend said it was quite watery when he drained his before so i guess just keep a close eye on it if you use it.

Another option would be to use regular oil then just change it every 10,000km or so as well... AFAIK, the usual tranny fluid drain intervals i see on most car manuals is at 40,000km in normal useage. We usually change ours every 20,000km or so.

BTW, would anyone know what ATF brand is rated at Dexron II-E? Speedyfix, would you have any at your shop?

I've been using redline gear oils, both MT90 and 75w90ns, no problems.
You might forget to change them every 2-3 yrs since performance doesn't change much.

I just want a better one...

Apparently, Redline has less additives than most GL5 oils... I'm worried most about those.

Thanks for the tips, will look at these places. :D
