Frankly, wifi access is pointless and would only be a limited benefit to the public in general. The CCTV system would be a better idea to improve the general safety of the area.

I just hope it will not be another EPAL project to self-promote Erap and Isko Moreno.

    Waiting sheds with Wi-Fi access

MANILA, Philippines - The local government of Manila will put up waiting sheds equipped with free Wi-Fi or wireless Internet signal in various parts of the city, according to Vice Mayor Isko Moreno.

In an interview over television station GMA-7 on Tuesday, Moreno said the Wi-Fi ready sheds would be built at designated bus stops in the city.

The waiting sheds will be constructed along the LRT Station in Pureza, Arlegui in Quiapo, Espaņa Avenue, Quirino Avenue, Taft Avenue and in Rizal Park.

Moreno said at least 14 innovative waiting sheds would be constructed in the city soon.

He said the waiting sheds would be fitted with CCTV cameras to protect commuters from snatchers and other lawless elements.

A team from the city traffic bureau equipped with GTS and other communication gear will monitor incidents happening in and around the designated loading and unloading zones, the vice mayor added.

Earlier, the city government reaped criticisms from commuters and bus operators who resisted a local policy that prohibited the entry of buses without existing terminals in the city.

Snatcher magnet...After the fanfare, mawawala rin iyan. Epal effect lang, laki ng posters nila Erap at Isko sa mga waiting sheds ngayon. Better just spend fixing those "new" timer traffic lights. Daming intersection di na gumagana yung lights...

How about improving infrastructure first? Wifi walang kwenta sa baha at trapik yan. Or even CCTVs, or traffic cameras.

Tapos sa Makati pa, mga tao puro naka mobile network. 'Cept for the SCs probably na naghahanap ng free WiFi lage. Not that they're all SCs, but please don't wave it in front of my face when you're just going to inquire if a free wifi's around.

I have to admit I am one of those people who depend on free wifi. I am not getting a data plan until Globe fixes their billing problem. I have had my internet charges waived for the past 3 months, as consolation even the hours that I used were waived as well

I wouldn't even think about getting my phone out of my bag or pocket at a waiting shed in Manila.

the waiting shed costs around P1.2M as per city hall.
bakit may wifi pa? kahit may cctv yan, ilalabas mo ba iphone mo or ipad mo while waiting for a ride?

    dami snatchers.

I think wifi would be used as a medium to connect the CCTV to a central server.

kung ang SM nga naglagay na ng 1hr limit pag nag connect ka sa free wifi ng mall, malabong free wifi for internet use of people under the shed ang sinasabi ng sumulat ng balita.

All news articles about the topic point to the same conclusion... the government is indeed deploying WiFi hotspots on the said waiting sheds.

I have mixed reaction on this... On one side, as an IT person, I'm quite glad we're sort of going in the right direction. I personally would've put it inside the MRT/LRT trains for best effect but it's their project and it's nevertheless a tiny step closer to what developed countries have.

On the other hand, the project will be (as always) tainted with politics. Further, I would think that they'll maximize the monetization by putting oversized ads/posters instead of the much needed signages/directions that would better benefit pedestrians and commuters.

Dapat nga meron time limit yung "free". Example, daily 30 minutes free access, after that may bayad na.
