bakit kaya hindi pinapagana ang mga traffic lights during these times -- ung tipong pinapablink lang ung yellow/red light? it's not as if makakatipid sa kuryente pag hindi inooperate di ba? isn't this sort of thing automated na, or kelangan pa rin ng human operator?

It doesn't save much, it's true, but in my observation people are less likely to blast through a blinking yellow without looking than a green light.

actually, reverting the lights to blinking yellow and blinking red during times when traffic is very light makes traffic move along more efficiently.

unfortunately, Filipino drivers don't seem to understand what a blinking yellow / red traffic signal means

blinking yellow means "Slow down" (and cross the intersection anytime when safe)
blinking red means "Stop" (and cross the intersection when safe according to right of way ... this is equivalent to a Stop sign)

it's maddening to halt at a red light for three minutes when thre's absolutely no cross traffic

I agree on this. Ayala avenue late at night is really prone to car accidents because drivers dont event care about these blinking stop lights.

tama ung sinabi ni master mbt.

blinking amber means slow down before crossing

blinking red means proceed to a full stop before crossing

    haaaaayyyy...

add: ako sa gabi hanggang madaling araw kahit flashing yellow full stop na kc baka may humaharurot sa intersection e madali pa ako.

hindi ba nga may joke na kapg nakita mo daw yung green, that means go fast kapag yellow eh go faster daw.

like i said sa mga past posts ko: ang may kakulangan sa maraming driver na Pinoy eh disiplina at common sense. however, hindi lang sa pinoy yan - millions of drivers around the world are the same and i've been in countries where drivers could really drive you nuts.

I think we should have a forum about traffic lights and regulation for the benefit of all.

Same thing with penalties and what to do if in a situation: lost license, apprehended, etc-etc.

hmm, on some busy intersections kasi parang nakakatakot pag di pinagana ung traffic lights -- like j. vargas - meralco. alam mo naman dito, andaming malalakas ang loob, palpak naman dumiskarte. i nearly t-boned a 24x7 taxi a few weeks back...

i was halfway through the intersection, looking to my right for oncoming traffic(blind spot kasi 'coz of the island) paglingon ko, sumingit pala ung taxi, in spite of the truck that was also crossing the intersection with me. ung trajectory nya would run smack into the center isle. ang masama pa nyan, ako pa ung nag backing para makalusot si loko.

the reason they did this according to the traffic engineering center and the traffic operations center is because they found out that "less responsible" motorists are more likely to slow down at intersections that have the blinking lights over intersections where the light is red...

a green light to a motorist may give him a false sense of security to proceed with the cross while a moron who has the red light may just disregard the light and just shoot across the intersection without even slowing down....

with the blinking lights, a "more responsible" driver would proceed cautiously as he approaches and crosses the intersection...

    Time travel tayo...

Mom: Anak, pag green anong ibig sabihin?
Me (4 years old): Go light!
    Mom: Ano naman ang red?
    Me: Stop light!
    Mom: Eh ang yellow?
    Me: Fast light!

My dad actually used to accelerate on amber lights! That was back in the early 90's when diesel was cheap and he took the Isuzu Gemini on a joyride on a regular basis (naninigarilyo rin siya nun). Matagal na siyang tumigil sa kanyang mga bisyo. Nung nagka kotse nga kami na may seatbelt natuto kami eh ngayon automatic na, kasi sila nagsusuot. I like my dad, heheheh.
