One-way traffic on streets near St. Luke’s reversed today

The vehicular flow to and fro St. Luke’s Medical Center (SLMC) has long been a cause of traffic in that particular area of E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue. Thus, the Quezon City government will be conducting a little experiment to see if the traffic will improve. They will be reversing the direction of the one-way streets in Barangays Mariana and Damayang Lagi starting today.

Starting today, August 12, 2003, the direction of the one-way streets of Victoria Avenue, Doña Juana Rodriguez Avenue, Gilmore Street and Hemady Street will be reversed. These streets have a one-way traffic flow from Aurora Boulevard going to E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue. But under the new traffic scheme in the area, the vehicular flow will be one-way still, only this time it would be coming from E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue heading towards Aurora Boulevard.

Likewise, some modifications on the traffic scheme going to SLMC will be implemented. Vehicles coming from Cubao will be allowed to turn right at the intersection to enter the hospital grounds and entrance. However, those coming from Araneta Avenue will be asked to proceed to Doña Juana Rodriguez Avenue where they may turn left towards St. Luke’s Hospital.

Motorists who frequently ply the above stated one-way streets and pass through the St. Luke’s are advised to take note to avoid being inconvenienced.

...bottle-neck traffic ang nang-yayari kapag galing kang Ortigas going to Gilmore.

...Stupid ang nag-isip nito.

-Bridge along Shaw (near Kalentong) is only one way because of repair work
-Wilson St is jammed in both directions
-Intersection of Ortigas & C5 was jammed because of a 5 car accident.
-Addition Hills roads are dug up and most have become oneway because of Manila Water doing some pipe installation.

These rerouting schemes really suck!

But we have to give it a try.... malay niyo, ma-improve ang traffic in the long term.

Parang Yung counter-clockwise scheme sa Otigas Center.

Dati asar na asar ako dun. Pero... mas ok if you get used to it... no stoplights!

Make your way to Araneta from Wilson. BTW, the bridge along Shaw is closed in the direction of going to Manila, so you have to take the road that passes by Baguio Oil or via Kalentong

Bad start for Quezon City traffic plan

THE ONE-WAY, reverse traffic scheme implemented in New Manila, Quezon City, is apparently causing reversed results.

Instead of easing congestion, the scheme started last Monday has led to massive traffic jams in the area, especially along E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue.

Some motorists complained of being stalled for hours.

And not even the presence of numerous traffic enforcers helped in easing the congestion.

The city government began carrying out the traffic plan along E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue in a bid to solve the traffic buildup brought about by the bottleneck in front of the St. Luke's Medical Center.

The city government said it had advised motorists who usually go through the area before implementing the scheme. However, motorists said they were caught by surprise by the traffic re-routing.

Lawyer Imelda Salazar missed an important business meeting after she was stranded right in front of the private hospital.

"What they did was very confusing," Salazar said, adding that she was trapped in the traffic jam for almost four hours.

Ismael Milan, supervisor of the traffic enforcers at the city's Department of Public Order and Safety, said motorists should bear with the new system saying it was only "experimental."

"In time they will get used to it, nalilito lang sila ngayon kasi bago pa (they're just confused because it's only new)," Milan said. "Pag hindi nag-work (If the new traffic scheme doesn't work), baka ibalik din sa dati (the old scheme may be restored)."

The Inquirer asked Central Police District traffic officials about the traffic scheme but they were not aware of how it was being implemented.

Traffic officers interviewed said the re-routing plan was a project of the Quezon City government under the DPOS.
