mga tsikoteers... I've been pondering the benefits of teaching traffic discipline and driving etiquette to school curriculum (preschool, elementary hanggang high school)... complete with quizzes and projects and stuff... para kapagnag-aral na mag-drive ang mga kabataan, eh sa puso na nila ang disiplina sa daan and courteusness. tapos gamitin prerequisite sa application ng driver's license and nakatapos ng subject na ito sa elementary at highschool... oks diba?

ang quizzes pwede parang sa test for application of drivers license... traffic signs, situations, etc.

gumawa ng traffic signs... no parking, speed limit, pedestrian crossing, etc.

pwede rin ang magsurvey ng unlighted streets or worn out signs... tapos i-endorse ng school sa MMDA or LTO.

pwede rin ang magkaroon ng intesection traffic exercise... sample situation na intersection without traffic light, alternate ang entrance into the intersection ng bawat lane (giving way, using 'right of way' rule)...

good point rafraf... i was also thinking about that. honestly, if we could just ask the authority to do that in the present curriculum the better. kung may pag-aabutan lang tayo ng suggestion. of course, the should be a cooperation with LTO, MMDA, DepEd.

Driving alone is not confined with operating the vehicle alone. Malaki ang pinagkaiba nitong dalawang ito. Maybe you could operate a vehicle, but not necessarily you can drive. I wish people could see that (ahem LTO, naintindihan nyo ba ito?)

    peace out...

But of course, di papayag yung mga corrupt sa Gobyerno.

It all boils down to corruption. When I got my license may nakasabay ako na jeepney driver. I think he's renewing his license. Nakopo! di marunung magbasa! I saw him conferring with the examiner, tapos yung examiner na mismo ang nagsabi... "marunong ka bang magbasa?" driver sabay kamot...: "e hindi ho eh" ipagkakatiwala mo ba nag buhay mo dun sa ganun? He is risking not only his passengers but other motorists as well.

Parting shot.... sabay kami nag-apply nauna pa sya nag-papicture... (sarap tadyakan ng mga taga LTO)

yes, pero we're aiming to make a difference. they should be the one who know what is right. in this case, defensive driving ang dapat ituro.

May konting help yan but i think teh FILIPINO/s in the PHILIPPINES can only be disciplined by imposing higher FINES (like sa states) madami kse sa mga drivers now madaming palusot kaya they don't obey the law, minsan naman tlagang matigas ang ulo or sadyang walang COMMON SENSE sa kalsada. mahirap tlaga ipatupad ang law here coz lahat ng CAR owners they claim the road as theirs na. Lahat may wangwang, may sticker ng PNP, Seal ng Presidente, Bumbero, PSG, MAYOR, etc. so ano gagawin natin peeps? kanya kanya nalang? minsan when nakapila me sa traffic then may lalabas sa kabilang lane, na tetempt na din me to do the same thing. Everybody does it so why not me, dbA? Pakapalan na lang ng mukha! hehehe... Kaya nga i told my wife that someday i'll buy a HUMMER para when i drop my kids to school walang, jeep-jeep, taxi-taxi, o COngreaman! total if magasgas yun old Hummer, easy to repair naman! hehehe... den put a Machine Gun sa Rear Deck... BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

a good suggestion, they can include this as a requirement before graduating in high school or this can be included in the choices along with CAT n social services. but i think impossible to include this in the curriculum as another subject becoz it will mean increase in the tuition fee

A bit off topic but related to discipline nonetheless.

About a year ago, I had to entertain some of my US-bound in-laws came here for a visit. As I was driving, the mom rolled down the window of my car and threw out a candy wrapper.
Her kid suddenly noticed and said, "MOMMMM, that's wrong!!! Back in the 'states, you always get mad at us when we do things like that. How come you're doing it here?"
Then the mom said, "In the state, it's bad. But here it's okay."

I was shocked and did not know what to say.

    ------

Anyway, kulang talaga sa enforcement dito. Enforcement should be strict and VISIBLE. I mean, having to pay heavy fines for violations should not be enough. Dapat may kasamang pag-papahiya in public sa mga violators na yan para matuto (in addition to the heavy fine of course.) Kahit siguro ipag-push-ups or squat sila with a dunce cap sa kalye for all to see...

i agree with u ess, that's why im pro-BF! i hope he will implement stricter traffic rules/laws.

but, if GMA wont win, do u think the "will be-President" will replace BF? just a thought coz he's very effective!

I guess it will depend on how the president 'wins'. If the president won through the votes of the BF-haters, then BF may get the axe.

very true. it's incorporated into 9th grade PE, just before a child is old enough to get his driver's permit. this is the system when i went to highschool there. the DMV (LTO here) will sometimes even come to the schools to administer the exams right after the ending of the Driver's Ed program. dun pa lang filtered na ung mga failed sa program, so hindi na sila mag exam for their driver's permit. sa US kasi, highschool pa lang, de-kotse na mga bata dun e.
