hmmm, i always thought that when that time comes, they'd recycle old plate numbers -- cguro they'd start using plate numbers from cars that have gone unregistered for 10 or so years

interesting...couldn't find any stats for the philippines with a websearch, but the US had 221 million registered vehicles in 2000 - or like 0.75 for each person in the US.

i know the philippines is a less wealthy country than the US, but aren't there 70 million filipinos or so?

that 70 million also includes people who don't drive cars, and people who can't afford cars(like me)

yesh, dat's true...but the 300 million americans also includes those who don't drive (like kids). i was just trying to estimate - even if 1 out of every 7 filipinos have a car (including businesses, jeepney drivers, etc), then that's already 10 million autos.

does anyone know how many automobiles are in the philippines?

plate number with letter "I" and "O" are special plates....pansinin mo bihira ka lang makakita ngeto sa kalsada...
Car plates letters starting from A - L ay galing sa probinsya... like "A" is from baguio .... "C" is from "Subic" and so on and so forth....
    sa NCR ay "N" "M" "P" "T" "U" W" "and now "X"....so 2 letters lang mauubos na..
ano kaya naiisip ng taga lto pag nanagyari eto?naalala ko yung letters starting "U" ay 1995... yung "W" mga 1997...so pag si num up mo.... mga year 2010....gamit na lahat hangang "Z"..
    la lang curious lang ako...hehe

most cars na sa subicgaling na binebenta here manila starts with "X". Yun ata yung mga bagong rehistro. Mga bago auto puro X kasi plates. Pag "C" na nakarehistro sa Central Luzon ata. Kaya mapapansin mo pag akyat kayo Baguio mga plates makikita nyo mga "C" karamihan. My plate starts with "C" registered sa Tarlac.

sa pagkakalam ko po eh ganito..
    region 1 = A
    region 2 = B
    region 3 = C
    region 4 = D
    region 5 = E
    and so on..

kaya pag nasa cavite tayo eh maraming sasakyan with letter D... sa tarlac at subic po eh letter C .. pagdating sa dagupan at baguio eh letter A ...

Simple lang..... pag naubos lahat ng valid combinations, palit ng format... and plates too of course.

Nung 60's every year palit ng plaka.
