    here is reportedly a reliable picture of how the new Lexus IS will look like (it is the second Lexus car to go by the L-finesse design theme). the new IS will spawn a convertible and wagon later, after it goes on sale at the end of 2005 in the US and Europe.
    engine:Europe 2.2L turbodiesel 177hp, 2.5L V6 204hp; US 3.0L V6 215+hp?
    6-speed gearbox for both engines, sequential 6-speed auto transmission(V6)
    gadgets:ACC,PCSS,IACL,VDIM...active cruise control,pre-crash safety system,intelligent active cornering lights,vehicles dynamics integrated magt stability system, 10 airbags

    waiting to be verified about the 2006 Lexus IS (maybe tomorrow):

    #1- IS220D and IS250 will be shown in Geneva but the Lexus IS350 (the US model) will be shown at the NYC Auto Show in April.
    #2- Techno gadgets: Bluetooth,navigation,park assist,Mark Levinson stereo,keyless ignition,"smart access"
    #3- IS220D and IS250 will be 6spd AT or MT and AWD or RWD; the IS350 will be RWD only and 6spd AT (MT will follow later)
    #4- IS350's 3.5L V6 will make 250++hp under $40,000
    #5- and then there will also be an IS300 from camry's 3.0L V6.

    can't wait till these are all confirmed.

    nice job toyota.the rear and door swoops look a lot like the new GS'. and the 3.5L V6 version is reported to make 245hp.

    The 3.5 V6 actually makes over 300 hp, translating to a 0-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds, almost the same as the defunct Supra Turbo. Search for the comparison test at Car & Driver.

    Sales of the first IS wasn't that good because the 3-Series was by far the favorite in this class. But now that the new BMW looks quite simple if not ugly, this handsome Lexus should be able to grab sales from the supposed benchmark. Factor in improved performance, dynamics, fun, and oh-so-important reliability, the small luxury sedan market should have some great competition once and for all!
