Toyota Vios Most Fuel-Efficient Car in the Country



The Toyota Vios and the Innova are the most fuel-efficient vehicles in the passenger car (PC) and commercial vehicle (CV) segments respectively, based on the results of the recently-concluded 2006 Fuel Economy Run by the Department of Energy (DoE). Both Toyota models are also the country’s best selling vehicles to date.

Last May 13, the Department of Energy held their 5th fuel economy test from DoE Headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City to Lipa City and back, with the support of the Traffic Management Group, the Citizen Traffic Action, Filcar and Shell Philippines. Twenty-three passenger cars and commercial vehicles from 8 car manufacturers and distributors participated, despite the bad weather conditions brought about by Typhoon "Caloy". Aside from Toyota Motor Philippines, the country’s number one automotive company, Mitsubishi, Volvo, Honda, Kia, Isuzu, Hyundai and BMW likewise sent their representative models as well.

After more than 160-kilometer run, the Vios 1.3 J Gas Manual Transmission achieved 22.16 kilometers per liter consumption in the gasoline category , making it the most fuel efficient car in the country. The other 10 entry vehicles in the gasoline categories included the Kia Picanto 1.1-Liter Manual Transmission with 20.8 kilometers per liter mileage, and the Honda City 1.3-Liter Automatic Transmission with total consumption of 17.5 kilometers per liter.

Toyota’s best selling vehicle, the Innova, with 2.5-liter direct injection common rail diesel (D4D) engine, also posted high results with total consumption of 16.55 kilometers per liter. The Isuzu Crosswind 2.5-Liter averaged 16.15 liters.

actually, ok sana talaga vios, considering yung cost of fuel eh. ang problem lang talaga dyan is sobrang sikip sa loob.

i am thinking if i should get this unit eh, to replace my current lancer. ang problem ko, is sometimes i go on out of town trips with around 4 to 5 people in tow. definitely talagang di kakasya.

Sounds just about right... but who the hell was driving the Honda City? We've gotten 23+ in traffic, so 17.5 on the highway sounds pretty low.

While the Vios is definitely frugal, note that the Kia Picanto has been tested to 25, the City usually gets 23 in traffic and 29+ on the highway, and that they didn't mention the Accent's 38 km/l (must've been a freak occurence... like Pocholo's 40 km/l in a Civic or Paul Tiglo's 60 km/l in a City) at all in their article.

The only way to really compare these cars apples to apples is to have the same driver drive them over the same route in the same manner. Differences in driver experience and style can account for up to 5-10 km/l with these super-efficient cars.

I got close to 24km per liters going to north using the pica. Pampanga. 60 to 80 lang rpm not beyond 2,500. Or mali lang computation ko.

talagang malabo naman ang perfect and all equal conditions for comparison e. dapat pati weather (temp, wind dir, wind velocity). dapat magsurvey na lang sila sa lahat ng owners at i-average o iclassify based sa style ng driving para mas actual. kaso madali din dayain to. anyway, good for us na rin yan kung fuel efficiency ang labanan. kudos to all participants na lang!

mas talo pa nga sya ng Crosswind eh, for a conventional diesel engine. .40 lang nilamang ng innova CRDi. and to think hindi pa ata turbodiesel itong crosswind.

Indeed marketing ng Toyota eto. Anyone can claim 20km above. Pero paano nga ba malalaman yung tunay at acurate na data? ika nga sabi ni sir theveed. Sa Baguio pababa pwede ng 100km/L

Why didn't they use a M/T City 1.3? ...since the other sub-compact cars tested were M/T anyway.
