RWD is better if you're building a dedicated racing car or if you're building a large cargo vehicle. Otherwise, FWD is better. Better fuel economy, more stable in wet weather, simpler, lighter.
I really do like the Avanza, but the RWD is a handicap. The first generation car was too tippy and squirrelly because of the rear wheel drive system and the crude live rear axle.
The current one is better, but it's not as sure-footed as competitors like the Grand Livina (the Carens has its own problems).

And the Avanza 1.3 is not the same as the Vios 1.3. Different engine designation and layout, so don't expect them to share more than a few sensors here and there.

Still, for city use, the Avanza 1.3 is pretty darn good, and I still like the third row legroom better than in the Innova.
