Hi new member here. Please help first time to buy second hand car. I'm choosing between Honda city or Toyota Vios A/T. Living and working in Cavite. My budget is between 180k-200k. By the way, I'm a beginner driver. Please help. Thanks

Not considering the Nissan Sentra? You may be able to get a newer unit.

Either way, they are good cars with lots of available parts just in case you need to repair... and since its second hand, choose wisely... goodluck!

    welcome to the phillipines!

may we know which city are you going to stay to see the feasibility of owning/renting vs just having to take public transpo like uber or grab as in my opinion is that maybe or there is a possibility that operating the vehicle in our country wherein the law is complete optional might be a challenge to you (or not if you have a local driver)

Im gonna settle down in Quezon soon .

a Yaris would be great, convenient in a heavy traffic in busy cities, dont you think?. Im concerned about the country's policy on car ownership for foreigners.

Price seems good. Check the car extensively with a trusted mechanic first though. Don't want to end up with a bottomless pit. The Yaris is basically a Vios in hatch form, so parts and maintenance are not going to be a problem. I have no doubt that the car will perform well if it is in good condition, however you may want to check first if the cargo space is enough for you. Resale value is good too. With luck you may be able to sell it at the same price two years later.

I am not aware of any different policy when it comes to car ownership for foreigners, especially with used cars. Two valid IDs, OR/CR and notarized deed of sale should be sufficient.

real estate is a no-no for foreigners, except when it is inherited.
but they may purchase cars , just like any native.

IMHO Olx is a good site to use because it has the most number of ads, and the ads there are the most frequently updated. Tsikot.com also has a great classifieds with lots of good options and much better interface.

Toyota cars are a good and safe choice. Parts are plenty, reliability is excellent, and resale value is high, though this also means that 2nd hand prices are also much higher than other brands. Some more popular Mitsubishi models are also pretty good.

    Happy hunting!

I think what you should consider are the ff:
    1. area/region/city you will be using the vehicle
    2. Routes. Are you going to rack up mileage, provincial roads/terrain or will you be in the city?
    3. Fuel. Who pays for what type, somehow depends on ^^
Cant go wrong with a toyota. for 2 years if you hit the jackpot you will only be paying for fuel, oil, filters and such, apart from insurance and vehicle registration costs.
    How much is your budget?

Since Toyota is your preference, you may want to try the Toyota Certified program (for second hand). It is pricier but you'll be more confident compared to unkown resellers.

Many of my friends also recommend so.
It'll be a bit more expensive but far more trustworthy.

I agree. Although it is more expensive, they provide a 1 year limited warranty for the engine and transmission, at least you have more peace of mind.

    ^Anong year model to?

Hangga't maaari, I'd suggest you get the diesel. Matakaw ang gas. Pamahal ng pamahal pa naman ang presyo ng gas ngayon.

I used to drive a Yaris and I would suggest you buy one! Have nothing to complain so far, and it's also a very good choice when it comes to buying used cars.

It's not mine actually. It's my dad's. He already sold it to a relative to buy an Avanza.
