Corolla XE 95: Engine Overhaul or Buy New 2E Engine?

Corolla owner here, got a second-hand Corolla XE (not XL, as I previously thought) from my relative. Medyo blow-by na ang engine; I asked sa Filmar kung magkano magpa-overhaul, P17K ang quote sa akin. On the other hand, my friend tells me that if I wanted to buy a whole new 2E engine, it might cost me around the same thing.

Should I get a new engine instead of have the old one overhauled? What factors should I consider?

+1 to this. Besides, unless you are well aware of the overhauler's reputation, you might end up spending for nothing. It is equally important na alam mo din pagbibilhan mo ng makina.... kumpleto sa papeles at maayos makina itself.

Much better if you change your engine to EFI than buying 2e again, otherwise mas maganda overhoul ka na lang para sure pa yun 2e engine mo.

IMHO since you're going to spend the money all the same, I'd suggest you get the new engine. But if you're getting a new engine, might as well upgrade. I'd suggest getting the 4E-FTE and then have it chipped... :devil: Just remember to let the turbo cool down for a few minutes before shutting the engine if you'll be getting this one.

17K sir? May I ask lang po kung Top or General Overhaul ito po. Kasi I also have the same dilemma, bought a 91 corolla 2E at blowby na.I posted my problems in the site and forumers suggested change engine nalang.Gusto ko sana ganun pero I'm still weighing my options because of the cost.May I ask sir san area po yun shop kayo nagpa quote? if this is a general overhaul (blow-by na kasi) I pressume, mababa po ito. Sa nakuha kong mga quotes from mechanics nasa 20-25k ang tantya nila. thanks.

Try mo din kaya sir magpa quote sa mekaniko malapit din sa lugar namin, even kase sa province na mga breakdown, dinadala pa sa kanya, sa kanya din ako nagpapagawa, even sa mga surplus engine, marami din cya alam na makukuhanan na mura dati siya sa isang malaking surplus shop sa marikina, nagbibigay sya guarantee sa mga trabaho nya

sir kung 20-25k complete overhaul na to afaik, kasi ang top overhaul nagrarange ng mga 10k to 13k
