toyota world's biggest 3 years from now?

Tokyo's daily Asahi Shimbun reported that Toyota in on track to become the world's biggest automaker in 2008 with the intent to make 9.7 million vehicles globally,overtaking General Motors (did toyota overtake Ford already?).
in 2006, Toyota is forecasting to produce 8.6 million vehicles globally. Last year, toyota produced 7.54 million vehicles while GM made 8.99 million.
GM,Ford and Chrysler have always been on top, the thought of America being no.2 pretty soon in the automaking business is really hard to swallow for those who live in the USA......oh man,the shuddering thoughts....

Many of its workers (in Toyota City) are already nearing retirement age.

Also, the old Toyota bulletproof-reliability is already showing some cracks.

Although GM is selling more cars, but by company value, TOYOTA is already the largest car company leading the competition with stock value 8 times than that of GM. The problem with GM is that more of its money are spent on healthcare for those retired and current employees. GM is the sixth largest employer in the US, and pays at least $5.6B/year for health care cost. Just imagine if that money is used to develop more car/engine technology. The GM stocks in NYSE is almost classified at JUNK status(meaning poor performing stock due to poor investor confidence).

They thought that it was easier to buy car companies from another country for them to grow easily, but they bought companies with poor consumer confidence, like DAEWOO in ASIA. Bad move. Or is it?

However, the company has continued to have growth annually even with the fierce competition, but for how long? Well, we just have to wait and see. It might not be too long before that happens!
