Regular PMS (not just replace/repair when broken) is a big factor. We can confidently drive any of our cars (two of them are over 18 years old already) out of town at any time without having to do a service check. Just load and go. We check the air and fluid levels weekly and do the regular servicing every 5,000kms. Belts, hoses, brakes are also changed and replaced when needed or after a certain number of kms.

Kotse mo yan bakit ka kinakabahan? Proper maintenance is the key, a relative of mine drove his car from MM -> Cebu. One car from a different forum drove his Cressida Luzon-Visayas-Mindanao and back ....

It depends on how the car was maintained. If you don't give a damn on how it runs, then it should fail you anytime soon. If it's the opposite then you shouldn't worry.

And oh btw, do avoid TXT-SPEAK.

It only goes to show how tough the big body corolla is. I own a GLi myself and I could say that's in very good condition.

Lahat ng sira niya due to wear and tear. Marami na ko napalitan and I think my car is good for another 5 years. Religious change oil every 5000 km lang talaga. Kapag may sira pagawa agad. As much as possible I get original parts too. Yung mga taxi na karag karag dapat di na talaga ibiyahe. Yung iba masabi lang na may aircon pero ang init init.

One more item: Cheaping out on parts and repairs.

Always invest in the tried and tested part brands (whether OEM or replacement), and a good mechanic/shop. No shortcuts allowed. I dont mind spending a little more as long as its for added durability and peace of mind which adds up to more savings in the long run.

I think this is precisely why one can have peace of mind anytime when it comes to driving his car on long trips.

You also learn the most from these experiences of personally keeping your vehicle maintained and taking the time to read the service schedule on the owner's manual (trial and error din actually).

Besides, if one cannot afford to maintain his car properly then he should not own one as it can also be an environment and safety hazard.

Err. What's your point? If you are able to purchase a new car, you can treat it like trash? Be cheap on the parts per se?

Actually, treating your car like a queen, whether you have the means to buy a new one or not, is the PROPER thing to do. Why? Take your experience as an example, natatakot ka ibyahe ng malayuan. See? I have a car similar to yours but I don't go cheap on parts. I CAN travel to Baguio & back without hesitations. I CAN travel whenever I want without having doubts.

And oh btw, if you want to avoid having an infraction or much worse being banned " play safe " & stop TXT/SMS speak.

My lola is mad because lolo replaced her 9th-gen Corolla with a Hyundai Tucson. I undestand her, because the Corolla is really a good vehicle, very dependable, no wonder some people call it the "Japanese Beetle".

However, it's not so easy to see a Corolla being used as taxi in my hometown, because drivers usually prefer to get a Chevrolet.
