1.3 Vios AT running up inclined roads

I read that the 1.3 Vios variant (MT & AT) has 85bhp and 122NM torque, which is convenient for general city and highway driving.

Would this power be sufficient for inclines or would the engine have a hard time pushing the car up on a regular basis. I thinking of getting an AT Vios for my wife and she may have to drive through several inclined roads.

I'd really appreciate inputs from Vios owner on this. Thanks in advance!

I don't have an 1.3 A/T Vios, but I do have a Gen1 M/T. From my experience, even the 1.3M/T does have a hard time doing the inclines (but kaya naman kung sa kaya lang -- hindi lang swabe).

I would think it would it will be more difficult for the Gen 2 A/T, primarily because of the A/T transmission, and secondly, it has a heavier body than the Gen 1.

tingin ko po kaya.. we have a celerio a/t kaya naman... basta pag feel mo nang hirap ang engine, downshift na agad... alam ko ang vios a/t meron din "L 2 3 D" use L or 2 pag hirap umakyat... hth!

yep. kaya din naman kung sa kaya. Even steep parking entrances/exits, kahit hanging ka, kayang kaya naman yun ng 1.3 Vios yun.

But back when my car was still new, I was expecting if to be much more powerful. Once, nag-drive kasi ako going to tagaytay using the sta rosa hiway, gusto ko sanang i-overtake yun isang car that was going around 60kph, pero medyo pa-incline na nun yung road (although slight inclines lang naman yun going to tagaytay)... yung mga dati kasing nada-drive ko (mga 1.6li cars kasi yun), alam ko na i-tancha ko how much road I needed to overtake that car in front, pero nagulat ako that time kasi parang hirap na hirap yung car umovertake when I shifted lanes and floored the gas, buti clear naman yung road in front that time.

Iba lang talaga ang lakas ng higher displacements. If you're just concerned kung kakayanin lang, then no doubt about it. If you want to have access on the performance even during the inclines, that's a different story.

i agree na kakayanin naman kung pipilitin hehe. medyo worried lang kasi ako dahil daily na route yung may mga road inclines at naiisip ko kung worth ba yung difference na 90K pesos sa price between a 1.3 AT Vios and a 1.5 AT Vios in the long run.

Kung wife mo lang naman gagamit at wala naman masyadong sakay okay lang . Kung maraming pasahero mas maganda kung 1.5 na lang kunin mo at depende rin sa pagagamitan mo ng sasakyan.

1.3 din ba yung Celerio AT ninyo?

Kaya kung sa kaya. We used to have a 1.4L B14 Sentra with an a/t and its current owner even drives it up to Baguio.

In our office parking for example (which has a stupidly designed ramp), i can crawl up an Altis 1.6 m/t without gunning the engine; with a Vios 1.3 m/t (either 1st or 2nd gen), the engine has to be gunned (revved before hitting the incline and gas has to be stepped on around halfway) to get up.

Heck, if the Lite Ace and Tamaraw FX with its 1.5L, 63hp engine got around Manila and can climb Baguio by the teeth, i don't see why a 1.3L Vios a/t cannot. You just have to push the gas pedal more (which will affect the gas mileage) and maybe put in nice wide tires (upgrade to 15s perhaps) which will give good traction when the inclines are wet.
