Pinoy rowers win intl swan boat race
The Philippine National Dragon Boat Team bagged the top prize in the 19th International Swan Boat Races in Thailand over the weekend, radio DZMM reported Monday.
The Philippine Coast Guard said the Philippine team bested other groups from Macao, United States, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Thailand and Hong Kong.
According to
www.swanboat.org, the event was held from September 8 to 9 on the Chao Phraya River (River of Kings), Bangsai Royal Folk Arts and Crafts Center. It is near the ruins of the golden city of Ayutthaya, former capital of Siam.
Lieutenant SG Armand Balilo, Coast Guard spokesman, said the Philippine team’s victory in Thailand is a good start for the group as it prepares to compete in a tournament in Australia.
The Philippine National Dragon Boat Team is composed of 10 Coast Guard rowers, two from the Philippine Army, one from the Philippine Navy and the rest are civilians.
