MMDA suspends own man for illegal U-turn

MANILA, Philippines-The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has suspended an employee in charge of operating heavy equipment for violating the very traffic rules that the agency is supposed to enforce.

Rogelio Anonuevo Jr., who reports to the MMDA’s flood-control unit, was suspended for five days starting May 22 and was given a traffic citation ticket for illegally making a U-turn while driving an MMDA truck at an intersection on Julia Vargas Avenue in Bagong Ilog, Pasig City.

The unit head, Engineer Emma Quiambao, said a concerned citizen managed to take a picture of the MMDA vehicle as it was making the turn around 5 p.m. on May 20, and sent the photo to a TV network.

Anonuevo was then driving a vehicle used to transport MMDA employees to various waterways in the capital for cleanup operations. The truck also moves heavy equipment used for the MMDA’s “Estero Blitz” campaign.

Quiambao said MMDA Chair Francis Tolentino, after learning about the photo, immediately issued a suspension order against Anonuevo to give him a lesson.

“This is the first time an employee of our unit was caught violating traffic rules, and we will never tolerate it,” Quiambao said.—Niña P. Calleja

Now we just have to wait kung kelan din huhulihin yung mga traffic enforcer na walang helmet, no hand signs/turning lights, singit ng singit, etc.

OT pero one time, may mmda na naka motorcycle. Stop sila at patawid ako dahil go ako. Nag go pa rin siya. Binaunan ko ng busina. Para bang nang-aasar pa na binagalan ang patakbo at pinaekis-ekis pa ang patakbo sa harap ko. Yung mga ganun pati, dapat hinuhuli.

Obviously kung hindi nahuli, hindi mapaparusahan. Alangan naman kusa siya pumunta sa boss niya at sabihing isuspendi siya.

Sir,ibig ko lang sabihin,kung hindi sa picture na yan ,lusot sya,pero sigurado ako may kasamahan sya na MMDA na naka poste sa Lugar na yan ,kaya dapat pati yun kinastigo din kasi kinunsinti nya kasamahan nya,Ito siguro yun magkamutan tayo ng likod

Parang ganyan nangyari sa akin sa macapagal dati. Sobrang haba ng traf. Then kita ko itong mmda nakamotor may angkas din naka counter sa kabila. Sa isip ko, sana masemplang. Kapal ng mukha mag counter while kami tagal na naka stop sa traf. Then after a few mins pa nag go na kami, pagdating ng intersection, gulat ko, the same 2 guys na mmda nasa gitna ng road inaayos ang flow of traf.
