    Hi Guys,

I'm experiencing a stiff ride on my 2001 Honda Civic VTI-S A/T. We bought it second hand. But I was not the first one to drive it after it was bought. Just a few months ago the car was handed down to me.

I ask my daily passenger if the ride is stiff, they say it's not. Maybe its just me, but I feel every road bump big or small, maybe I just don't notice the bumps when I'm on the passenger seat of a car. Its my first time to "own" a car, maybe I'm just a little to paranoid, but I would like to assume the worst case scenario.

How much do I need to replace the suspension? (sorry I don't know what component to replace).

What brand of coil/spring is worth buying?

    Where to have it replaced/serviced?

    TIA

You guys can try to visit Cruven, suspension specialists. Although I think there is nothing wrong with your cars, you can modify or replace the shock absorbers or coil springs to match your liking. KYB (Kayaba) is a good alternative to OEM. For reference, Honda's OEM brand when it comes to shocks is Tokico.

    *zephyr08,

They say that the Civic VTI-S has a stiff suspension to begin with so this could be the reason why you feel that your car has a stiff ride.

But you can have it checked just to be sure if it does need to have the struts replace.

For the Kayaba(KYB) shocks, here is the price:
    Front shocks : 4500
    Rear shocks : 2500

the car has a stiff suspension to begin with. i own a 03 vti-s, at talagang matigas compared to, say, a corolla.

only advice i can give you (and something i'd like to try for myself pag nagkapera) is to change to aftermarket shocks... all 4. may cheap shocks daw, zeon brand, 1500 each... maybe this would be softer.

tapos have the joints and shock mount points replaced.

    yun lang.

    KYB nalang.

Cheap shocks might give up easily. Mas magastos.

Also, baka medyo matigas din yung tires mo. ;) Try to set it to atleast 30psi.

Stiff rides can be caused by a lot of things.
    1. Since the car is new to you, you may be just comparing it with the others. Suspensions are designed and rated differently with every make and model.
    2. The coils may be "shortened" by the previous owner.
    3. The tires may be low-profiled or over-inflated.
    4. The shocks are due for replacements.
    5. Worn-out suspension components like ball joints, tie and rack ends, stab link or bushings won't give you a stiff ride but a rattled ear with the constant rattle and noise.
    6. Damaged suspension parts can be repaired by cruven. But with the link and shocks, better to have them replaced new. Watch out though for replacement shocks. I had an experience with KYB for a CRV and it took two batch of bad replacements from the supplier before I decided to get a pair from Honda instead.
