I'm no expert but AFAIK best way to maintain your brakes is to change your brake fluid at the proper interval. I think its 40,000 kms or 2 years whichever comes first. Brake fluid absorbs water vapor. I forgot the correct term. I think its hygroscopic or something like that. When it absorbs too much water, it will cause all sorts of nasty things to the brake system as well as loose stopping power. So best replace at the recommended intervals.

Brake pads are replaced when its too thin. Normally you will hear a squeaking noise when its time to change brake pads.

Front pads are bigger compared to the rear pads if ever the rear braking systems has a disc brake. For the price, it depends on the brand of the vehicle. At a normal usage, the ratio is 2:1 meaning you change your front pads twice before you change your rear brake pads. Factory setting for our brake system is at 70/30, 70 for the front and 30 for the rear.

the car is L300FB. though i don't feel or hear something unusual, i thought of changing the brake pads on its next maintenance. any idea of the size/specs/brand i need to buy?

what do you mean by "Factory setting for our brake system is at 70/30, 70 for the front and 30 for the rear"?

    Brake distribution ratio

Your rear brake for your L300 has a drum brake system. Its best to have it clean every PMS to minimize brake dust built up.

An oridnary bendix standard brake pads and brake shoe for the rear will do the job

check your owner's manual. or, when you feel something's wrong with your brakes, annual check, when it makes noise, when the stopping power is diminished, when you buy a used car without the maintenance record, after an accident, when your brakes idiot light turns on, when your fuel efficiency drops, when it leads or pulls to one side when stopping or if you are an experienced driver, your gut feeling. it is better to be sure than leaving this concern to luck or prayers

Brake pads are essential parts ng auto... Dapat hindi tinitipid kung me budget, in my experience ok ang bendix, basta wag yung general CT... Mababa friction nun,

Yearly bleeding of brakes, complete bleed...
