Mga bro ask ko lang kung anong magandang type of shocks which is best suitable para sa SUV Type na vehicle? Gas or Fluid type na shock absorbers?

Recommend ng shop is still the fluid type is best suitable, then sabi naman ng most off roaders the best daw talaga is Gas type kasi pwede mo din i modify to nitrogen gas yung laman ng shocks. ask ko lang din po san gumagawa ng ganung modification?

    Thanks

    irevolution,
all shock absorbers are oil filled to dampen suspension oscillation to reduce the wavy ride and to keep the vehicle's tire in contact with the road. if you were to drive in a bumpy road, the oil passes through small orifices or drilled passages on the shock absorber piston several times a minute. this causes the oil to get hot and lose viscosity therefore you have the shock absorber fade (shock absorber inefficiency) when this happens. to prevent or reduce this unwanted effect, the shock absorber is pressurized with nitrogen to raise its boililng point and in turn reduce the shock absorber fade. why nitrogen? because nitrogen is an inert gas (does not support oxidation) which is stable until it reaches about 2800 degrees fahrenheit, then it starts to combust. it does not react with the oil inside your shocks.

Wow thats very informative and highly technical Mr.Jick. But in layman's term which is better, fluid or gas type shocks and not the combination thereof. For me I will still go with pure gas type shocks. And this is based on the theoretical explanation of Mr.Jick. Gas specially nitrogen are inert and does not easily oxidize in addition to its high temperature operating range thus giving u a more stable shock actions.

    granro01,
from the write up, you would deduce that the gas charged is more stable from shock absorber fade. i haven't come across pure gas shock absober yet. do you mind telling me the brand? all shock absorbers i have seen since i started tinkering with vehicles had hydraulic oil in them. thanks

whoa.! thank you very much sir jick! enlightened ako sobra.
so according to your explanation lumalabas na mas suitable talaga ang gas type na shocks..

btw sir KYB brand yung familiar and mostly available na shock absorbers dito. bilstein is superb pero may kamahalan lang. around 6k per shocks.

GAS. Go with Bilsteins. It will outlast yun mga "may kamurahan" na shocks. Minimal body roll on curves. Fast response offroad. I have it in my Patrol.

Pag SUV gas, di tatagal fluid. Pag kotse I prefer fluid sometimes combination.

I have KYB gas on all four wheels (my rig is a patrol), pag off-road (or provincial road) maganda ang laro. pero pag maganda yung road like asphalted o cemented medyo may tagtag (but not as bad a in a pick-up na tagtag). Im going to try a monroe brand next time, just to compare.

ano klase SUV? kung mga kasinglalaki ng Patrol, better ang gas dyan... kargahan na yan ng Old Man EMU...

kung mga CUVs lang, mas maganda pa din tingin ko ang fluids.

Sir ung RAV4 (Gen2 4x4 AT) ko me leak daw ung right shock absorer.
