Ordinary Power Steering Fluid in a Honda CRV?

My 1999 CRV has never had a power steering fluid change. It now has 87,000 km. The manual warns not to use any fluid (including Automatic Transmission Fluid) other than Genuine Honda Power Steering Fluid, otherwise damage will occur. I have some leftover Valvoline Automatic Transmission Fluid II and some generic ATF too. I plan to use them, as PS fluid is usually ATF. I am not considering Honda's warning too seriously. Comments?

trying to save a few cents on honda/acura power steering fluid usually leads to more expense and inconvenience. yes, honda is very specific of their power steering fluid. it sucks but experience has it that they are serious about it. it is your choice, but my experience tells me it is true of honda/acura power steering system.

one more thing iba po ang viscosity ng ATF mas matapang sya pra sa mga rubber seal ng rack and pinion, ang p/s pump... mabilis makasira ng mga oil seals... kaya ang honda po my sarili psf design on 4 power steering.

sa experience ko mas maigi pa yun mga fluid from gas stations.. stay away from exotic fluids-- hinagpis lang bigay syo nyan.. all these oils have to meet certain standards like dexron II or dexron III ( now it's dexron III).. by experience nasubukan ko pati mga specialty fluid.. hayun in two cars i ended up replacing the high pressure hoses because of leaks.. mind you napaka mahal ng mga hoses na 'to for nissan.. now i use fluids from caltex-- yan yata havoline is from caltex also..

how many liter po required if palitan ang atf fluid or repair ng pump / rack & pinion ng crv 99?

Use what is really reccomended on your 1999 CRV on your owners manual ATF fluid for your power steering and Automatic transmission fluid. To avoid damage . If its Genuine Honda power steering fluid indicated use this product .

Kindly compare the specs of Honda power steering fluid against the leftover Valvoline Automatic Transmission Fluid II and some generic ATF. If not too great difference you might as well use the local. If in the specs the viscosity of the fluid is specified compare them both and decide.
