Hi guys, I've been experiencing a skidding problem even at slow speeds (30-40kph) every time I step on the brake

I just noticed earlier after driving that the front left mag is significantly warmer (nakakapaso) than the right (kayang kayang hawakan). neither wheel was immersed in water along the way.

Does this mean that the front brakes aren't balanced, that the left one is gripping harder compared to the right?

I'm concerned about the safety of my truck, especially with all this raining going on...

P.S. can anyone recommend a shop for this? I don't think my trusted mechanic is equipped to deal with the problem...

It could be the warmer brake is the one RUBBING against the brake pad even if you don't step on the brake pedal. Better have it checked and/or cleaned.

If not fixed early, the brake pad will wear out faster and possibly overheat the pad too.

or as our mechanic would say "nag-stuck up" na yung brake caliper mo. either the guiding or the main pistons ang masstuck due to dirt or corrosion. tendency is hindi na or mabagal bumalik sa "open" ang brakes mo. have it checked asap. delikado yan at makakasira ng rotor in the long run.

    scharnhorst,
as with most people writing to the helpline, you forgot to properly identify your chariot. i would assume it is an asian truck. is it four wheel drive or two wheel drive? is it floating caliper type or fixed caliper type, as no asian made vehicle is equipped with a sliding caliper type. chances are your piston is stuck on its bore in the caliper or the brake hose is restricted as in arteriosclerosis in humans. the pressure which is about 400 to about 500 psi to your brakes is able to overcome this restriction, however, the pressure of returning fluid is not sufficient in pushing the fluid back to the reservoir because is applied by the return of the caliper seals from distortion(material shape memory retention) to regular shape. the brakes then would drag and overheat in time. with these symptoms, replacement of the front brake hoses and rebuilding of the front calipers is mandatory if you don't want to kill somebody or hurt yourself. this is a serious safety matter.

sir jick, thanks for the thorough explanation - I'm bringing it to a trusted mechanic later. Sinasabi naman nya kung hindi nya kaya yung trabaho. I'm just wondering where I can take it to if that's the case

    It's a 4x2 1999 Ford Ranger

    scharnhorst,
that particular ford truck is equipped with sliding caliper made by bendix corporation. it has similar service procedures but it includes cleaning corrosion off the sliding surfaces and lubricating them with high temp grease (use sparingly and avoid contact with friction surfaces). replace the front caliper hoses too as a set.

    All done,

apparently, one of the rubber rings attached to the piston had given way - had a new complete set installed. The piston itself was also showing signs of corrosion and had to be replaced. Brake pads too, were almost gone.

Muntik na. Kung binyahe ko pa yun ng isang provincial trip hindi ko alam kung san nako pupulutin.

Thanks for all the information! It really helped in localizing the problem

P.S. Might bring it back to have the hoses replaced, along with the brake fluid, if needed
